"What if @apple made a drink coaster..."
This was a fun test piece I machined on a Nomad 4 prototype some time ago. It's a two-op part, where I use a snug pocket + side clamps to hold the part in place. Final parts were bead blasted and anodized.
PS. Nomad 4 is now live on the @carbide3d shop page ππ
Also, RIP Mac Pro...

When a CNC won't cut it (cleanly), a laser makes a pretty good alternative...
This is my first successful cut of 2 thou stainless steel shim stock. Need to try playing around with some settings in @lightburnsoftware to make this more efficient, but so far the @gweikecloud_official G3 Pro is performing as advertised.

This is the best case I can make for why every Maker should give parametric design a try - it let's you make sweeping changes with minimal effort.

New video out now about making this parametric miter saw stand and tool cart. The design is optimized to maximize the use of a single sheet of plywood, and it goes together kind of like Ikea furniture - the panels/parts automatically locate themselves, dropping into slots or attaching to pre-drilled holes. It's perfect for a woodworking amateur like me...

Got tired of my Ryobi miter saw spewing dust everywhere so I took some brain cycles to reverse engineer a better solution, with some help from my new @revopoint MetroY Pro 3D scanner. Not a perfect solution, but definitely a lot better. The build is documented in my latest video on YouTube.
I just published a video on the @carbide3d YouTube channel about how to design your own wavy wooden flag file from scratch, but I couldn't resist making one in aluminum as well... Anyhow, go check out that video if you're interested. The Carbide Create file for the wooden flag is shared on CutRocket as well if you want to dissect my design and toolpaths.

Made a charcuterie board with a multi-color epoxy inlay for a family member, actually kind of enjoyed the process, and then made another one that's better suited to my interests.
PS, the NASA design and toolpaths are shared on CutRocket if you want to download the project and see how I did it.

I think I can safely say this is the largest thing I've ever had to disassemble... And what a disgusting mess it was to get it stripped down and locked up for transport. It wore a coat of years old coolant sludge and stainless steel chips... π€’
This Doosan Lynx is being relocated to our Illinois shop to continue its life of making CNC parts.
Cutting Inconel Honeycomb on a Shapeoko π
A company approached us about using our machines for for an Op 1 in preparing exotic alloy honeycomb pieces. I wasn't familiar with the process so we set up a test. These kinds of honeycombs are cut using an HSS or carbide shear disk, and the key requirements for the machine were sufficient rigidity, smooth motion control, and a high RPM spindle. The Shapeoko 5 Pro we used exceeded expectations.
