A closer look at our project featured in yesterday’s @nytimes .
The kitchen at Java Haus — where a dramatic double-height volume and a 16-foot tall high-performance window draw southern light deep into the heart of the home, serving as its primary gathering space. White oak cabinetry, plaster walls, and honed stone countertops keep the palette quiet and grounded, letting the space — and the light — take center stage.

We’re proud to share that Java Haus — our Greenpoint, Brooklyn Passive House — is featured today in The New York Times.
What started as a 1910s two-story timber-frame townhouse, originally split into two rental units, is now a light-filled, all-electric, single-family home built to Passive House standards. A vertical addition, double-height volumes, a landscaped roof terrace, and an 8.4 kW solar array — all woven into the bones of a century-old structure.
This project is everything we believe renovation can be: deeply sustainable, beautifully crafted, and rooted in the neighborhood it calls home.
Thank you to @tmckeough and the @nytimes for the wonderful feature, to our consultants and project partners, and above all to our clients — for trusting us with their home.

Another look at the double-height kitchen at our Greenpoint Passive House — Vermont stone counters and a wraparound island, walnut cabinetry, a sculptural Bocci 28.16 pendant overhead, and a tall, high-performance window pulling south light all the way through.

The primary bathroom at Java Haus.
Gray Bardiglio and White Carrara marble tile from @artistic_tile clad the walls and floors. Custom oak vanity by our studio, sconces by @cedarandmoss . Fluted low-iron glass in the shower, with a walkable skylight above that pulls in daylight while keeping the weather out.

The center room of this 1897 Italianate brownstone was once closed off by a closet blocking the original pocket doors. We reopened the space, preserving the intricate fretwork as a “portal” between the historic parlor at the front and the new contemporary kitchen at the rear — now flanked by Jenny wall sconces from @blueprint_lighting .
In the foreground, a vintage travertine coffee table from @chairishco pairs with Maker’s armchairs and a Dixon Six light fixture by @lawsonfenning .
