Did you know that you can sew on your patches using a sewing machine? It’s one of the quickest ways to attach a patch to your clothes and the best things about is - it’s reversible! You can easily unpick it if you want to remove it further down the line or want to re-use your patch.
Step 1: Choose your thread colour - go monochrome if you want the stitches to blend in or choose a contrasting colour if you want it to stand out (I recommend colour matching if you don’t feel super confident with your sewing machine yet because mistakes are less visible)
Step 2: Choose your patch placement - if you’re covering a hole or stain, make sure the patch covers it fully.
Step 3: Pin your patch in place.
Step 4: Sew the patch inside the seam using a straight stitch. I recommend using the slowest speed setting on your machine if you have that option so you can be super precise. Another hot tip is leaving your needle inside the patch when you turn a corner - that way the stitches will be perfectly rectangular.
And you’re done! Let me know if you have any questions or want a slower more detailed tutorial 🪡

Have you got a piece of clothing you never wear because it is special to you? Is it really well made, has a great fit or simply was a bit of an investment?
I have had these @marazul trousers since 2020 and hardly ever wore them even though they fit like a dream and I loved the way they looked on me. I did regret buying them in white because I cycle and am generally someone who tends to cover their clothing in something pretty quickly - not ideal.
I ended up never wearing them because I was too scared they’d get ruined. So I decided to cover them in patches instead. I thought if I added lots of pops of colour, any stain or imperfection wouldn’t be so obvious. I spent around 7 hours sewing all of these patches on, questioning my decision a million times but reminding myself I can just take them off again if I don’t like it. *swipe to last slide for WIP*
Once I was done and put them on, I actually loved them even more than before. They had become a unique statement piece. And stains obviously happen all the time now I actually wear them, but they don’t bother me as much anymore.
Would you do this to a pair of your own pants? 👀
Together with Bristols very own @toritsui_ and @rebel.patch we invite you down for an evening of patching, mending, conversation and rethinking what fashion could look like if we kept our clothes in use for longer.
