My new work is an ongoing series studying Mosques as digital commodities. A first look at the project will be shown at the Prix Photoforum 2025. This version explores the spatial grammar of Mosques architecture (courtyards, domes and the Qibla) and how these are translated and repackaged through digital systems of representations (wireframes, texture maps and glitches). Thank you for the selection @photoforumpasquart

“Is This the Middle East? investigates representation of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in a selection of video games. I am interested in the patterns, repetitive artefacts, locations and texts in games that claim to be set in the MENA region. These objects become archetypes. Are these photo-realistic environments also realistic in the scenes they depict or do they become another backdrop for war-related games? Using photogrammetry to reconstruct these environments, I address the implications of seeing an abundance of often over-simplified images of the Middle East, especially in a world where video games are becoming not only a global phenomenon, but also a means to encounter other cultures.” - Part of my diploma project “Is This the Middle East?” made at @ecal_ch @ecal_mid . The second slide is a preview of the website used to archive landscapes and artefacts found throughout several video games claiming to be set in the MENA region. The scenes can be viewed as stills and interactively. #videogames #middleeast #stereotypes #newmedia #representation #mena #archiving #northafrica

For the past few months, I’ve been exploring ways to render 3D scenes through erasure. I work with a custom-built laser machine as a physical rendering tool. The laser removes layers of pigment applied to the paper, revealing the underlying structure of the 3D model. In collaboration with @genevieve.capitanio , I developed a series of works examining the aesthetic and visual logic of Google Earth models, focusing on their fragmented geometry and modes of representation. This series will be presented as part of the exhibition Tandem, organized by @visartevaud , opening tonight at @espace_arlaud . The vernissage starts at 18:00 Thank you @visartevaud and @glavepatricia Dry pastel on Arches Paper - 90 x 60cm

Recently I started @suwaronline , a place where I gather images from the Arab and Islamic world with a strong focus on the Islamic Golden Age. One of the main goals of Suwar is to speculate on links between these images and contemporary visual languages. The project is accessible as an ongoing archive @suwaronline and as a website (always better on desktop) at www.suwar.online

A version of my project “Is This the Middle East?” will be shown at the @museeartpully for the exhibition entitled “Auguste Veillon. Voyages au fil de l'eau” from the 10th of March. Using photogrammetry to reconstruct these environments, I address the implications of seeing an abundance of often over-simplified images of the Middle East, especially in a world where video games are becoming not only a global phenomenon, but also a means to encounter other cultures.” This is the first time the project will be shown in VR (Virtual Reality). #mena #videogames #middleeast #vr #digitalspaces #worldbuilding
