Race report - UCI Tour du Bocage et de L’Ernee 26
5 riders Theo Sandell, Hadley Davis, Milo Clarke, Billy Kee and Billy MacPherson made the trip to France for the 3 stage UCI Tour du Bocage et de L’Ernee.
175 of the best riders in Europe lined up on Saturday afternoon in chilly conditions.
The demanding course was made even more so by very strong winds with large sections of the parcours being exposed to some savage cross winds.
Race was incredibly fast from the start and it wasn’t long before those crosswinds split the peleton to pieces, Theo and Milo made the split and found themselves in the front group of only 28 riders. Hadley, Billy Mac, and Billy Kee faught on in various different groups on the road behind.
Milo lost contact on a long exposed road, he gave everything to get back on but the speed was just too high for a lone rider to make any headway.
Theo put in a massive ride to cross the line in 24th place.
Hadley managed to finish inside the time cut. The rest of the team battled on showing real determination and character but sadly were unable to avoid elimination.
Stage 2 time trial saw Theo narrowly missed a sub 20 min time with 20.06 on a difficult course, Hadley having never ridden a TT before achieved his aim of being inside the time cut and finished with a respectable 21.03.
Stage 3 took on 4 laps of a rolling course including an 18% climb which was tackled 5 times.
Theo was in the mix when a punture saw him loose his place in the front group in lap two. He chased hard after a wheel change, got close but couldn’t quite get back to the front. Brave ride, it was all or nothing.
Hadley lost contact on the 3rd lap as riders ahead of him unclipped on the climb. He finished in front of a group of 10 in a sprint up the steep climb towards the line.
Brutal racing, the boys showed real support for eachother, they gained valuable experience and made good use of the feed zones and team car while racing, lot’s learned, they will only get stronger!
A huge thank you to the whole support team, to
