A fully wrapped guest bedroom where you can send friends and family who need the provincial ‘up in the old attics’ experience. Referred to as the Ghost Room for as long as anyone can remember. Guests for the night can be fully immersed in a very beautiful @nicholasherbertltd print and free to read as much Beatrix Pottter as they would like. With much help from brilliant Arabella of @comptonsmithinteriors

We’ve really enjoyed restoring this old clergy house for the Firle Estate. ‘Restoring’ because there really wasn’t much character there before. We have used plenty of ‘Church of England Blue’ and produced a fabric of brass rubbings which has become a favourite. Paintings and more upholstery next.

We have always felt that the kitchen begins with the dresser. This outbuilding didn’t have much space for a kitchen so we designed a very hard working dresser. @wheelwright_construction1

After a monumental team effort, Makryammos Hotel opened for the 2024 season with its reception, lobby and bar transformed. We all had a much needed break there in the summer and took these photos but shortly after continued work on the next phase. In the 2025 season the hotel unveiled a new walled garden with swimming pool, a new spa, beach bar temple, and 24 new hotel rooms. The construction work, design work, engineering and bureaucracy involved in building in such a special place in such a short time was vast. We are rather proud to have been a part of it. George’s family has made brave steps to ensure it can continue to protect this singularly beautiful cove on this unspoilt island. More photos to follow in due course!
This is really a bedroom rather than a bathroom. It was the object of much attention for months on site. The floor had to be strengthened, the bathtub came through the window, the panelling is copied from a nearby farmhouse who most likely stole it from another house. The panelling behind the stove is metal. The bathtub is from @watermonopoly , curtains by @comptonsmithinteriors , main photograph by @paul_whitbread_photo , with the kind permission of @guyachambers
We thought it might be fun to share some photographs of the great people we work with - starting with the three of us as a gang at David’s wedding last spring. The nine snapshots that follow show the mix of what we all did together last year: designing our own colours, and fabrics, a sofa and some furniture, stone colonnades, kitchens, new wallpapers as well as the bread and butter of drawing and organising new buildings with our clients.
Here is a quick scribbly note to say thank you as with buildings being put together and interiors slowly made and decisions piling up as lists we have not been sharing much news. But, it has been a monumental year so here are some fun behind the scenes photographs.
1&2. Renovating a corridor of rooms in Firle Place to find again Palladian pop and swag and the stable block.
3&4. Building two large new houses, one in Athens and one near Lewes.
5&6. Renovating two houses near Firle one with 50 new windows and doors and the other a little thatched cottage.
7. George has built his own house and finally moved in with his family in time for Foivos’ christening party.
8. Building hotel rooms and pavilions on the beach in Thassos.
9&10. We have also designed an armchair and sofa, three types of canopy beds and ten new fabrics and a wallpaper for Firle Place and other rooms.
And finally, after 5 years of work, we published the Firle Estate Plan with the National Park. With luck and a fair wind next year will be a flurry of finished work.

Evening at the cabin. Timber and tin, with sheep’s wool insulation, built slowly at weekends. Set amongst pistachio and fig trees in northern Athens. Home now to George, Daphne and children.
