CLAGS is beyond excited to honor Qween Jean— Haitian storyteller, human rights activist, and two-time Tony-nominated costume designer— with the 10th annual José Muñoz Award.
Last week, Qween Jean received two Tony Award nominations: Best Costume Design of a Musical for Cats: The Jellicle Ball and Best Costume Design of a Play for Liberation. Also, last week, she won a 2026 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Costume Design for Saturday Church and received a Special Citation from the New York Drama Critics’ Circle. She is also a Dorian Award Nominee for LGBTQ Theater Artist of the season!!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Qween Jean founded Black Trans Liberation, an organization that provides fellowship, food, groceries, and housing resources for the transgender and gender nonconforming community. In the process of weekly fellowship, Black Trans Liberation feeds approximately 15,000 people a year.
The award winning, two-time Tony-nominated, costume designer and activist will join CLAGS for a discussion and celebration of the annual award on June 15th. You’re not going to want to miss our signature Pride Month event. Bring a colleague, a friend, an activist comrade, a theater enthusiast! Join us Monday, June 15, 2026, at 6:30 pm EST and give Qween her flowers 💐💐💐.
