PuppetKabob’s “Dirty Gerts” is a lighthearted story of growing up in Vermont during the mid-1960s rendered in a groovy blend of historical fiction, 60s pop culture, and colorful confetti. PuppetKabob’s production features paper pop-ups and old style paper dolls made entirely out of re-purposed paper products. The performance follows the challenges confronting a young middle schooler, Carol Lee Bell, as she navigates fitting in, creativity, and acceptance. Sarah Frechette, Artistic Director of the Vermont-based PuppetKabob, is an award-winning puppeteer, teaching artist, and stop-motion costumer. When we officially kicked off 2025 at Mucky Duck, we asked our friend @puppet_kabob (master puppeteer & storyteller Sarah Frechette) to start the season with this show. We had a full house for every performance and some of y'all even came to see it more than once. We're excited to welcome Sarah back for another round of shows! The story of The Snowflake Man is inspired by Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley, the self-educated farmer and scientist who attracted world attention when he became the first person to photograph a single snow crystal. The Snowflake Man swings audiences into the historic 1920s through creative storytelling, intricately designed Czech-style marionettes, and a striking pop-up book of water color scenery. This UNIMA-USA award winning show combines art, science, and a little known piece of American history to magical effect! Sarah Frechette (@puppet_kabob ) is an UNIMA-USA Citation of Excellence Award winner who deftly rouses uncanny characters and shadowy shapes to pull audiences into her blended worlds of fantasy and reality.
