It’s time for my notorious contextual post. “The Beautiful Malaise” by Everything Is Psychedelic (Tony Bontana & psychedelic ensemble.) is out on Bandcamp (with CDs) and Ninaprotocol. Streaming services to follow at some point. This is my No Wave album. I’ve been wanting to make a record with this energy for a very, very long time. I relate to the genre’s philosophy more than most things and I’ve been feeling this way generally about art/life for a very long time. Coincidentally, I think that dropping this release now is more appropriate than ever before. Tony was the perfect collaborator for the execution of this direction. From his mindset to his influences to his personal stories - everything fell into place like it was by design. If this album sounds like two creative dudes testing who will be the first to say “nah, hold on, we can’t do that”… Guess what? That’s exactly what happened. I also want to shout out Tony’s work ethic. I keep joking around that working with me on an album is like an intricate obsessive “Kubrickian” experience, but this may have been the first time that joke became reality… Only a few artists would’ve pushed this album to completion if they were in the same situation as Tony. As always - I need to stress that we cannot reach this level of greatness on our own. Thank you to everyone for their contributions!!! This is not possible without YOU. A handful of these songs have, in my opinion, some of the wildest moments in my production so far. We were on some SHIT man. I’ll let you decide for yourself which moments I might be talking about as you listen to the record. All songs have been carefully remixed and remastered by me so that new listeners and old fans alike have the most mind blowing (and consistent) experience. “CACOPHONOUS DIGRESSIONS, A RECORD OF A MOMENT IN TIME” by @sweetmarysue and myself is out now everywhere!!!!! Putting this album together was a very interesting process for me. Sue and I have been sending each other ideas since about November 2022 (i.e. shortly after I invited Sue to do a guest show on NTS). The initial drafts sounded broadly like a progression of Sue’s sound. However, around January 2023 I started picking up that Sue was actually much more interested in taking a proper left turn, and this is when the creation of the record became a full speed joyride with no seatbelts on. The “forces, magnetic pull” theme was a happy accident. I made that flip in roughly 2019 and stumbled on it when I was organising my files in early 2023. I thought it perfectly matched Sue’s mood-swingy writing. Fast forward a few weeks and we had a fully fleshed out album-wide concept. Although I think it’s best to leave the listeners with as much room for interpretation as possible, I would still like to suggest that you listen to this album as if you were experiencing a three-act play. The theatrical essence of this record is easily my favourite part about it. You see - I was a big fan of Prince Paul’s “A Prince Among Thieves” way back when I was just starting to deep dive into old Rap stuff. When creating the sound of this project with Sue, I was thinking a lot about how my favourite short films make me feel. See, for example, Norman McLaren, Ed Emshwiller, Paul Sharits, Stan Brakhage or Toshio Matsumoto. I think I left enough nuggets for the proper fans to dissect. In celebration of their third anniversary of inception (time flies!), @youarethestream are releasing a STACKED compilation called “veneration for the sacred action”. I contributed two tracks - an instrumental titled “THE RADIO IS BROKEN BUT WHY AM I CRYING” (Track 15) and an audio epic called “THE FOOL” with @kofileahy and @lambrabbit on the vocals, @cajm_ on synthesisers and @thenarrator_______ on piano (Track 21). life is beautiful and I go way back, even before LIB was established. If you were lucky, you could have found me chilling on the infamous aloisius couch in a flat near London Bridge as early as 2021. Later, aloisius told me he wasn’t completely sure on the day we met if it was really me or a paid actor. I still chuckle about this sometimes because I would never do such a thing. Ever. Anyhoo, some cool trivia about “THE FOOL” - I remember THE NARRATOR told me she imagined a scene of dancing marionettes while playing her piano segment. You won’t be able to unsee this once you hear it. So good. “THE FOOL” is one of the most ambitious compositions I put together so far. It’s very theatrical, so make sure you put on something nice before you press play.

The festival features a crazy lineup of artists who made monumental contributions to experimental music, just like us. The celebration of “The Beautiful Malaise”, an album brought to you by the joint venture of @everythingisperfectrecords and @liveattheclinic , two UK based leading institutions in the arts sector at an international scale, continues. See you there. Worth noting this will be the second time in the history of Earth when psychedelic ensemble makes an appearance on stage since my debut solo performance on 7 November 2023.
