Hey! It’s Friday! Let’s get a little crazy…
Christoph Jesus is the singer/songwriter, graphic artist, and originator of the band Crazy & The Brains. Growing up in Northern New Jersey and migrating across the water to Manhattan, the young visionary got his start as an acoustic act performing at open mics, squats and house parties throughout the Lower East Side. Graffiti and specifically wheat-pasting became a prominent component of Jesus’ work as he decorated the streets of NYC with his abstract cartoons and tag name “Crazy & The Brains” to communicate his ideas. The solo project has since explosively evolved into a full band featuring a rotating cast of musicians and instruments pulling inspiration from jazz, hip hop, folk, and, of course punk-rock. Crazy & The Brains are currently in the studio with Tim Armstrong with their latest singles “Disgusting” and “Tsunami Sunrise” released on Hellcat Records.

Nathan Larson cut his teeth in the DC punk scene of the 1980s with the seminal hardcore band SWIZ. After relocating to New York City in 1989, Nathan joined SHUDDER TO THINK, who jumped from Dischord records to Epic in 1992 and enjoyed a wild run of touring (opening for Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Fugazi, Smashing Pumpkins as well as Lalapalooza 1994) and recording (1994s PONY EXPRESS RECORD is experiencing a reassessment, having recently gotten a coveted 9.1 score from Pitchfork), and 1997’s FIRST LOVE LAST RITES included collaborations with buddy Jeff Buckley, Liz Phair, X’s John Doe, Cheap Trick’s Robin Zander, and soon to be wife Nina Persson of the Cardigans.
After a solo album (1999’s JEALOUS GOD) Larson dug into film scoring in earnest. To date he has made music for upwards of 70 films, documentaries and TV series, including titles like BOYS DON’T CRY, Todd Solondz’s PALINDROMES and STORYTELLING, Stephen Frears DIRTY PRETTY THINGS, MARGIN CALL and THE SKELETON TWINS.
In 2010, Nathan learned to meditate in the mantra-based Vedic tradition, and would become a teacher of this modality in 2021.

One of the coolest experiences we’ve had in a long, long time. Big thanks to @jeffdavidson for putting this together outside of @thisisnotcroydonfest at @brokengobletbrewing . Thanks to all the folks who watched and sang and clapped along, and listened to me and Tim read some stories, and @benny2shoes from @theboydetectiveband read his excellent poem. This is the sort of thing punk rock IS, and embodied in what we’re trying to do. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
