Hi. So I wrote a novel and the excellent and supportive people at Unsolicited Press decided to take a chance on it. So here it is! Click the link in my bio to preorder (release date is May 9th). And grab a few other books from their catalog while you’re at it. And thanks to @rsmarshbank for the gorgeous and creative cover! 22-year-old Jacob Constantine has everything he needs—an Ivy League education, a wealthy family, and the lucrative offer to take over his father’s real estate empire. The only problem is he doesn’t know what he wants, other than his ex-girlfriend Deirdre back. When she attempts to rekindle their relationship one week before his departure to Germany—where he accepted a one-year job to put off the inevitable career with his father—the presence of the past begins to overshadow his temporary escape from the future. With the help of a beer-guzzling, flatulent punk rocker named Stinki, and Julia, the beautiful and spirited intern at the American Studies department where he works, Jake tries to navigate the present tense in Germany. But as he speeds toward his unwanted future, no amount of sex, drugs, or punk rock can keep the dark secrets from the past from being stirred up in the wake of Deirdre’s reappearance. Equally funny and foul, heartwarming and heartbreaking, "Release Me" is a coming-of-age story about a young man who understands that home is where the heart is, but is stuck pondering the question, ā€œWhere is my heart?ā€

Summer’s the best. The first book I translated ends on the first day of summer. Chapter 20 of my first novel (quite possibly my favorite chapter) takes place on the first day of summer. Enjoy the day, friends. And the rest of this glorious season, for that matter. #releaseme #forwhatitsworth #waskostetdiewelt #thorstennagelschmidt #firstdayofsummer #summer #summersolstice

This is my buddy @mister__nick ’s new book. He’s a fantastic writer and a good friend. And without him the @prslwritingproject wouldn’t have ever gotten off the ground. But I digress… Have I mentioned how talented of a writer he is? And this new one? Sheesh… It’s got dinosaurs and giant squids and orgasming landmasses and multiverses and quantum entanglements and a bunch of parentheses and brackets and other cool punctuation. But at the heart of it it’s a rom-com. It’s about a relationship. Or the potential of a relationship. Or relationships (plural)? And it is imaginative as hell. Read this to satisfy your inner child. But, like, it’s totally not PG (or PG-13). Just read it. I’m rambling. Happy Release Day!!! #nickgregorio #jenandgarysinfiniteandquantumentanglements

Not a bad few days… Hosted Indie Book Club on Thursday, thoroughly enjoyed Indie Bookstore Day on Saturday, then hosted some after-hours indie music in the store. Then an early morning impromptu parking lot reading/acoustic performance with some folks from the @prslwritingproject . Just a bunch of cool people doing cool things at cool places…

One of the coolest experiences we’ve had in a long, long time. Big thanks to @jeffdavidson for putting this together outside of @thisisnotcroydonfest at @brokengobletbrewing . Thanks to all the folks who watched and sang and clapped along, and listened to me and Tim read some stories, and @benny2shoes from @theboydetectiveband read his excellent poem. This is the sort of thing punk rock IS, and embodied in what we’re trying to do. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I saw this on the used shelf at @asbury_book_cooperative and was immediately drawn to it. Strange concept (locals get pissed at visitors [admittedly not strange at all] for catching a huge stingray, shooting it several times, and hanging it from a tree to rot in the summer sun [quite the premise…]) and decide to teach them a lesson. Oh, and ghosts? And it takes place over the course of one day, which just adds to the disorienting pacing. But what did it for me was how tense this one was. Like walking a tightrope on a sweltering hot day and the rope is strung so tight that you can feel the tension thrumming beneath your feet like it’s gonna snap at any second. (Spoiler alert: it snaps…) It kinda reminded me of Heatwave by Victor Jestin or And Their Children After Them by Nicolas Mathieu (though not in scope) or even Paradais by Fernanda Melchior. If you’re familiar with any of those and enjoy that sort of nervous tension/locals vs. outsiders conflict, I definitely recommend this one. #notariver #selvaarmada #anjiemcdermott #translatorsonthecover #graywolfpress
