I thought I had followed quite an organic design process - essentially cutting and adding bits to my bodice block toile until I liked the shape - but then I found these &daughter screenshots in my sewing inspiration folder (swipe to see) and wondered if my mind had been copying that all along. Either way I'm happy with the outcome.

I learned a lot of new things making this project. It began with a @projectpatterns bodice block drafting zoom class on a rainy lockdown day in June. I would absolutely recommend signing up for one of these if you fancy going off-pattern. I have a feeling I'm going to get so into pattern drafting - I've even invested in my first mechanical pencil since I finished maths A-level 12 years ago 🤓

I learned how to draft a bodice block in a zoom class with @projectpatterns a few weeks ago and have been playing around with pattern making ever since.

It will ultimately be a dress with a gathered skirt. I think I made about 4 or 5 toiles before I cut into this lovely textured black cotton from @newcrafthouse . I used a rotary cutter instead of clunky scissors for the first time and it's amazing - all of my notches actually match up! Lockdown has produced many lessons in patience and precision.
