No prior dance training required This workshop will attentively and philosophically engage with choreography as a structuring phenomenon. As a particular form of writing. The class will consist of physical exercises and philosophical interludes. Tools for the writing of movement will be fleshed out by focusing on shape, musicality, abstraction and signification. Building phrases in the process. At the end of the workshop, every participant will have created a small repeatable (choreographic) performance. Casper Dillen is a choreographer, writer, and educator currently based between London and Brussels. Casper studied at Central Saint Martins where they received the Deans Award. They completed a post-graduate degree with distinction in philosophy at Birkbeck. And their research at the Royal College of Art concerns choreography in the expanded field. Work Includes a duo exhibition at the Bomb Factory Art Foundation, performances at The Place, London, Center for Performance Research, New York and at Tictac Art Centre, Brussels.

The participating artist in focus: ZEROH
Daniel Hardiker and Neil Hetherington have been working together as ZEROH since the turn of the century. Their work touches on the themes of harnessing community engagement, human environmental impact and place making through digital and hands on practices.
The ‘People of Hastings’ (2022) saw over 300 community members 3D scanned and 3D printed as a community portrait.
They are the founders of Bottle Alley Art Market and their recent work has seen them engage with the communities on the Broomgrove and Downs Farm estates in Hastings in conjunction with Hastings Storytelling Festival as well as establishing the town’s largest community supported artwork ‘Wavelength’.

The participating artist in focus: Corinne Bouaoun
Corinne Bouaoun is a Beirut-based graphic designer, art director, and visual artist whose work navigates the intersections of design, politics, and public space. Her practice spans installation, print, and digital media, using illustration, video, and narrative techniques to investigate urban governance, spatial politics, infrastructure, surveillance, migration, and identity. A classically trained violinist, she is also interested in working with sound and music to create multi-sensory performances that reveal hidden or overlooked realities.

The participating artist in focus: E Xuan
E Xuan (宣子奕), Chinese, is a primary live art practitioner, especially focus on participatory performance art. Indirect intimacy between performer and audience is her interest. To be specific, ‘indirect intimacy’ means there are always objects between bodies in her performance. Stimulating audience’s body to do the reactions is her aim, instead of too many intellectual thinkings.
‘More touching than watching, more feeling than understanding, more reacting than explaining, more experience than expression.’ (by E Xuan)

The participating artist in focus: Kelvin Atmadibrata
Kelvin Atmadibrata (b.1988, Jakarta, Indonesia) recruits superpowers awakened by second puberty and adolescent fantasy. Equipped by shōnen characters, kōhai hierarchy and macho ero-kawaii, he often personifies power and strength into partially canon and fan fiction antiheroes to contest the masculine meta and erotica.
He works primarily with performances, often accompanied by and translated into drawings, mixed media collages and objects compiled as installations. Approached as bricolages, Kelvin translates narratives and recreates personifications based on RPGs (Role-playing video games) theories and pop mythologies.

The participating artist in focus: Casper Dillen & Christy Taylor
Choreographer, writer, and, sculptor, Casper Dillen (b. 1999, Belgium) makes performances and narrative objects resulting from affective situation-specific collaboration and research: rehearsals. Together with Small Sample Size Theatre, they have created performances for theatres, galleries, toilets, playgrounds, and museum staircases.
Christy Taylor (b.1988, London) doesn’t like having his haircut at the barbers. The small talk, the waiting, the mirror, the ending. A recent dispute with a barbershop owner on Google Reviews only deepened his frustration, leading him to attempt self-barbery, with mixed results. This constant rhythm of repetition, adjustment, and failure provides the backbeat to his art practice, where process often becomes the subject itself.

The participating artist in focus: The Aimless Archive, Alexander Stubbs & Jay Moy
The Aimless Archive works across text – conversation – performance – collecting. It questions what we keep and what we get rid of by generating starting points for new and collaborative work, building archives as places for reflection and evaluation, and presenting unfinished and ongoing work.
Alexander Stubbs is a creative practitioner based in Hull, UK. Working primarily in text-based and collaborative practice, Alexander explores the ways in which text and archives can be reanimated in new contexts. He has a particular interest in community-building practices, and often works with other artists to deliver workshops, reading groups, and community events. He enjoys working with young people and artists at all stages of their careers, especially in settings outside of mainstream education.
Jay Moy is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily with a range of digital processes to create images, audio, sculpture, installations, and immersive and augmented environments. His work explores the relationship between physical and digital versions of reality, and the interactions offered by technology as platforms for public participation.
For Present Voices, artists present TYPELOOPS, the performance by The Aimless Archive and Alexander Stubbs, using a single loop of paper between two typewriters. There will also be a series of audio documentation performances with Jay Moy.
