We love this work by @prayznerstudio in our current show. Andrew Prayzner Study for DONT (2021) Graphite, 11 x 15 in. USD 300 Andrew Prayzner’s painting practice contorts recognizable imagery in a way that is influenced by the collisions endemic to the contemporary digital space. This work examines how symbols (such as the Gadsden Flag) have shifted as signifiers within different audiences. These paintings are somewhat indebted to the memeification of images which deliver ideas on levels that are propagandistic, thus memes have established a pictorial primacy due to their viral dissemination. From ancient cosmologies to contemporary iconographies, the serpent crawls through time as an enduring symbol, ever becoming and never static. I have a collage piece in this huge show curated by Tommy White at @springsprojects called Subway Riders. Each artist was given the classic MTA subway map and asked to make it into art. Opens Thursday, October 2 with a reception from 6-8pm.

This is a very special mother’s day because it is the first for my beloved @catherine_haggarty . As you may know, our daughter Juliette Margaret Haggarty-Prayzner was born last month on April 12th. We waited a long time for Juliette to arrive. Years had gone by and then finally Catherine was pregnant. The birth was an ordeal and at one point, life threatening, for Catherine. But she got through it with her usual grit, grace, and humor. This first month has been a baptism by fire but if there was anyone well equipped for this it’s Catherine. The kindness, love, and patience that she usually coveys is multiplied by a thousand with our daughter. It seems to me that to be a mother one must be accustomed to hardships that would crush a man. I say that we need to listen to the mothers of the world for they know things that we can only imagine. I love you Catherine. You did it. Happy Mother’s Day. Also I want to say I love my own Mom and my grandmother and my babcia, my godmother, and aunts, my mother-in-law, and all the family friends who have taken on this role. Happy Mothers Day to all ❤️
