First looks: The 2026 Graduating Student Exhibition, on view May 12–24, featuring thesis projects by more than 600 students in 16 areas of study from the School of Art and Design (@FIT_ArtDesign ). The show is a culmination of several years of research, experimentation, and critical thinking, showcasing each student’s artistic growth and unique experience at FIT. @fitnyc just debuted its class of 2026 runway show featuring 91 designs from 80 students, and the level of craftsmanship was truly a testament to years of hard work. Representing 26 countries and 24 U.S. states, these designers explored everything from intricate knitwear to innovative sustainable silhouettes. These collections highlight the immense skill of the BFA program’s top graduates, and we’re officially placing our bets on these being the names you see leading the industry in the seasons to come. Two FIT alums. One custom gown. A lifelong friendship.� For Anne Hathaway’s 2026 Met Gala custom @MichaelKors Collection look, Michael tapped fellow FIT alum, longtime friend, and renowned artist Peter McGough (@petertmcg ) to create a one-of-a-kind painting on the sculptural black gown. Hand-painted over the course of 60 hours, the gown features motifs inspired by John Keats’ poem “Ode on a Grecian Urn.” #FITNYC @fitalumni

In celebration of “The Devil Wears Prada 2” opening today, we’re throwing it back to last week—when six FIT Fashion Design students scored seats at Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM “Front Row” interview with the cast (yes, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci). During Judging Day for the upcoming 2026 Future of Fashion runway show, we got an early look at a selection of standout student designs as our distinguished panel of industry leaders determined which pieces would make their catwalk debut. Thank you to this year’s incredible judges: Simbarashe Cha, staff photographer and visual columnist at “The New York Times;” Craig Connole, design director at G-III Apparel Group; Kenneth Downing, creative director at Halston and chief creative officer at Xcel Brands; Maryanne Grisz, president and CEO of Fashion Group International; Trees Himpe-Depuydt, globalist at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp; Fern Mallis, founder of New York Fashion Week and member of the FIT Foundation Board of Directors; Buxton Midyette, VP of marketing and promotions at Supima; and Andy Chia Yu, owner and designer, Bespoke Apparel. From the petri dish to the runway, @Columbia is leading innovation in the fashion and textile space with its PRISM platform, which has been awarded an $11.5 million grant from the @bezosearthfund . The PRISM platform, co-developed by Helen Lu, the Percy K. and Vida L.W. Professor of Biomedical Engineering and professor of dental and craniofacial engineering, and Theanne Schiros, professor of materials science and project lead at SUNY’s Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), is a 5-year research program to develop a high-quality textile fiber grown by bacteria fed on agricultural waste. The PRISM program is one of the latest efforts of Gotham Foundry, a sustainable materials innovation hub launched in 2025 with support from the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYC EDC). The resulting fiber would require no land use and produce no microplastic pollution, a major step forward for the textile industry, which is a leading global contributor to climate change, water use, waste, and pollution. At FIT’s Annual Gala on April 14, more than 650 leaders across fashion, business, and culture gathered at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine with a shared purpose: investing in the next generation of creative talent. The evening honored Richard Dickson, president and CEO of @GapInc ., recognizing his legacy of brand reinvigoration and his commitment to creativity as both culture and commerce. Hosted by @Ciara , with welcome remarks from FIT President Jason S. Schupbach, and a performance by @AloeBlacc , the gala raised nearly $1.9 million in support of scholarships and future-focused initiatives for FIT students. A defining moment of the night: the launch of the Doris Fisher Creators Program (DFCP), a mentorship initiative connecting students directly with Gap Inc. leaders as a bridge from the classroom to the industry. Meet the 5 Finalists of the Roc Nation x FIT Design Competition. @RocNation , the powerhouse entertainment company behind some of music’s biggest names, teamed up with the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), challenging students to design a fashion capsule that bridges music and style. Five students rose to the top.
