Working across painting, collage, photography, textiles, and installation, Untethered features art practitioners who construct worlds that operate by their own internal logic. Their artworks are artifacts of their practice and meaning-making. The works in this exhibition live in that space. They are, as abstraction always is, an anchor at the edge of a portal: grounded in material, in gesture, in the specific intelligence of each artist's hand — and simultaneously opening onto something larger, something the viewer must meet halfway. Untethered is an invitation to see the interior of methods, imaginations, and humanity. Join us: 📍 Tiger Strikes Asteroid Philadelphia 📅 May 14 – June 20 🕕 Opening: May 14, 6–9 PM 🔁 2nd Thursday Open Gallery: June 11, 6–9 PM ⬜ Saturdays: 12–6 PM #UntetheredExhibition #ArtOpening #TigerStrikesAsteroid #abstraction #phillyart

Meet LUSMERLIN. LUSMERLIN is a multidisciplinary artist working between Greater Baltimore and Philadelphia and exhibiting internationally. Her practice weaves together quantum physics, spiritual tradition, and the folklore of her Dominican Taíno, Lebanese, and African heritage. Working in large-scale pastel, acrylic, and paper, she uses color, gesture, and texture to create abstract self-portraits that celebrate women, nature, and the unseen forces that connect them. She is a 2026 Baker Finalist, 2025 Janet & Walter Sondheim Semifinalist, a 2024 Mural Arts Philadelphia Fellow, and her work has been presented at El Museo del Barrio, The Peale Museum, and nearly 30 juried exhibitions internationally. #UntetheredExhibition #LUSMERLIN #MultidisciplinaryArt #BakerFinalist #SondheimAward

Soft Crash Tiger Strikes Asteroid Philadelphia @tsa_philly September 26 — November 7, 2026 Johannes Barfield @johannesbarfield curated by Stephanie J Woods @stephaniej.woods Curated by Stephanie J. Woods, this exhibition will feature new work by interdisciplinary artist Johannes Barfield, which will combine illustrations, sound, and sculpture in response to the theme of Collective Futures. The exhibition will center on a speculative science-fiction narrative about a former archaeologist returning looted artifacts in a world shaped by a dying sun and portal technology. Through layered soundscapes, tactile materials, and speculative storytelling, the exhibition will explore themes of cultural restitution, ecological urgency, and radical imagination. This project proposes a future shaped collectively through acts of repair.

DuiJi Mshinda @duiji_13 is a Philadelphia-based visual artist, poet, and DJ whose work explores presence as a practice — sitting with life's challenges while remaining grounded in shared reality. Working in kaleidoscopic digital collage sourced from original drawings, whiteboard creations, photos of nature, and found objects, his process mirrors the beat-chopping recontextualization techniques of music producers. His recent solo exhibition Alignment was presented at International Bar in Philadelphia in January 2026. As co-founder of Vinyl Tap 215, he has held residencies and headlined events at the ICA, The Gathering, Urban Village, International House, Rex at the Royal, and leads music and community care programming throughout the year. #TextileArt #VisualPoetry #DJArtist #UntetheredExhibition #PhillyArt

In honor of 17 years of programming, we’re highlighting a handful of exhibitions that continue to resonate. Today we are reflecting on Martin’s End. This two-person exhibition considers image-making in the wake of the 2016 U.S. election and the rise of generative artificial intelligence. Working with opacity, structure, and density, Ryan Scails and Andre Yvon critique the dominance of technological frameworks in shaping how we perceive and construct the world. Their work engages with what philosopher Martin Heidegger described as “the end of philosophy,” foregrounding systems of measurement, analysis, and control. Yvon’s deconstructive manual techniques draw from source imagery ranging from natural forms to political documents, including a mugshot of NSA whistleblower Reality Winner. Scails’s modular soft sculptures—described as speculative technical objects or “anti-exposure units”—resist institutional imposition at their seams, opening space for alternative modes of seeing and knowing. We are approaching the final few days of our fundraiser and we still need over 30 new monthly patrons to reach our goal! With a monthly contribution starting at $5, you help sustain a space grounded in radical empathy, generosity, and experimentation, making room for projects that challenge, imagine, and expand beyond the limits of the mainstream art world. Our goal is to get 60 new patrons this month! Go to patreon.com/tigerstrikesasteroid to join! Photography by Andre Yvon - @andre__yvon #tigerstrikesasteroid #fundraiser #tigerstrikesasteroidis17 @tsaphilly @tsa_ny @tsa_la @tsa_chi @tsa_gvl @andre_yvon @ryanscailsstudio

Celebrating 17 years, we take a moment to look back at some of the exhibitions that have shaped our journey. Today we are reflecting on Where You Left Off. Connecting artists from the Tiger Strikes Asteroid network with Mexico’s most dynamic creative communities, this international collaboration bridges practices across borders. The project brought together twenty artists across six cities and two countries—pairing ten TSA artists with ten artists based in and around Mexico City. Throughout 2023, participants exchanged ideas and insights about their work, culminating in exhibitions at the Crane Arts building in Philadelphia and a parallel presentation in Mexico City. The project foregrounded dialogue, exchange, and the possibilities of sustained artistic connection across geographic and cultural contexts. Join us in building what comes next. A small monthly contribution goes a long way in supporting exhibitions and programs rooted in care, curiosity, and bold thinking, creating space for alternatives to dominant art world structures. Our goal is to get 60 new patrons this month! Go to patreon.com/tigerstrikesasteroid to join! Photography by Constance Mensh. @cocobanal #tigerstrikesasteroid #fundraiser #tigerstrikesasteroidis17 @tsaphilly @tsa_ny @tsa_la @tsa_chi @tsa_gvl

As we celebrate 17 years of work, we’re returning to some of our most memorable exhibitions along the way. Today we are reflecting on Queen Nancy Bell: Fingertips of Jesus and Feathertips of Jehovah. This solo exhibition presented a wide range of paintings created from 2011 to the present, offering a glimpse into Bell’s powerful artistic vision. Each composition centers on a discrete motif, built through vibrant color, intricate pattern, and bold outlines. Figures of animals and people occasionally appear, rendered with the same ornamental intensity. Ancient motifs—spirals, paisleys, and eye forms—imbue the work with a sense of timelessness and deep human connection. Frequently titling her works “Jesus,es,” Bell describes her practice as a spiritual act. This divine connection guides her work and reflects a desire to share faith and meaning through image-making. Become part of the community that makes this work possible. Starting at $5/month, your support helps us continue cultivating projects driven by empathy, experimentation, and critical dialogue, opening up new ways of making and sharing art. Our goal is to get 60 new patrons this month! Go to patreon.com/tigerstrikesasteroid to join! Photography by Constance Mensh. @cocobanal #tigerstrikesasteroid #fundraiser #tigerstrikesasteroidis17 @tsaphilly @tsa_ny @tsa_la @tsa_chi @tsa_gvl @queen_nancy_bell
