never posted the final outcome of the chair building, oops.
Slab-built ceramic chair, 2022, inspired by forms of injection-molded chairs. These hybrid objects pastiche culturally inherited craft lineages tied to Chinese ceramics and plastics manufacture, blurring the lines between traditional and modern craft & forms.

Here's a quick flashback to the Seed Starting event that our Public St artists Dana Heng @bitter_mel0n and Moy Chuong @see_ew_later hosted with @rosaparkscenterri back in May! Their commemoration project has been focusing on diaspora and foodways in the neighborhood and this event was meant to promote agency and autonomy through gardening. Swipe to see some moments from the event!

Next Saturday, join PCL artists @bitter_mel0n and @see_ew_later for their gifting ceremony of a planter to the Mattie Smith Tot Lot! The event honors Mattie L. Smith, a beloved community organizer, activist, and co-founder of Direct Action for Rights (DARE). With the adjacent street recently renamed in Smith’s honor, her granddaughter—Chef Bree of Sunday Soups—will be present to receive the gift. Swipe to see the planter in progress + a photo of Mattie Smith along with Chef Bree @the_afro_indigenous_vegan . The event is part of Dana & Moy's Planters for Public, a community intervention engaging personal, familial, and community memories and archives in the context of local organizing and foodways. Their work asks us to consider those objects and acts which may appear unremarkable upon first glance, but nevertheless form the fabric of the lives of people in the community. Be sure to join us on the 18th as we honor and celebrate the great Mattie Smith!
