𝐓𝐀𝐁 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 The @tallinnarchitecturebiennale 2026 Vision Competition “From Void to Value” invited proposals for reimagining Tallinn’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, with a focus on Harju Street. The competition addressed the reactivation of urban voids within a historic context, balancing heritage preservation with contemporary urban needs. The first prize was awarded to A Place Reclaimed by Patrick Liik, Mikael Ristmets, Kaari Maria Tirmaste, Martin Sepp, and Valerii Krinberg, a team of young architects and urban designers based in Estonia and the Netherlands. The project reimagines Harju Street as a staged urban transformation, introducing an incremental “city within the city” that develops through existing structures, passages, and courtyards. It reconnects the Lower Town and Toompea and treats heritage as an active spatial layer rather than a static condition. The jury highlighted the clarity of the proposal, noting its strong spatial strategy: «A highly ambitious and well-presented strategy that introduces a “city within the city” behind a street-side wall: an incremental urban village with civic and community functions. The idea of reconnecting the Danish King’s Garden and introducing a new bridge and vertical links is widely appreciated. The kiosk-like small units and the screen element raise questions about suitability and possible cliché. Despite these reservations, the project is regarded as one of the strongest and most discussion-worthy visions». 𝐓𝐀𝐁 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐌𝐌𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 The Installation Programme Competition “Budget Bougie” invited architects to rethink notions of luxury through the lens of limited resources, proposing a temporary outdoor pavilion in front of the Estonian Museum of Architecture in Tallinn’s Rotermann district. The jury reviewed over 100 submissions from more than 30 countries worldwide. The winning proposal, Resonance by Aru Ma- Architects architectural practice founded in 2021 by Cheng Hao Chung and Zhang Jie, with team members Cui Jiakai and Matteo Minnicelli, and based between Shanghai and Tokyo, was selected for its reinterpretation of luxury as an intensified spatial and atmospheric experience created through ordinary materials. Conceived as a quiet courtyard detached from the intense and noisy atmosphere of Tallinn’s traffic island setting, the installation combines rebar, ropes, limestone, and plywood to create a space of intimacy, resonance, and temporary retreat. Through a carefully balanced tensile structure anchored by a central stone core, the project transforms strict economic and material constraints into an immersive architectural environment. The winning installation willbe realised in August 2026 and inaugurated during the Opening Week of @tallinnarchitecturebiennale 2026 in the public space in front of the Estonian Museum of Architecture. 𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐀 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐔𝐀: 𝐈𝐍 𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐄, 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐁𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐒 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐎𝐑𝐒 𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐄𝐃 𝐁𝐘 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐈𝐎𝐓𝐀𝐌𝐀𝐓 In Rome’s Flaminio district, @STUDIOTAMAT unveils Casa Continua, a 115 sqm apartment entirely reimagined through a project that engages with the home’s layered history while opening it to new ways of living. Purchased by the owner more than thirty years ago, the home had gradually fallen out of step with the person living in it. Fragmented rooms and rigid hierarchies no longer reflected a daily life shaped by movement, conviviality and sharing, nor the increasingly central role that cooking had come to play. The intervention therefore began as a broader realignment: a contemporary rewriting of the interior, restoring a dialogue between the house and its inhabitant. Upon entering, the apartment reveals itself gradually through a continuous sequence of rooms connected by visual and physical thresholds. At the centre of this system lies the kitchen, completely rethought as the core of the home. Around this nucleus, the living area takes shape through the union of three former rooms. Each retains its own identity, yet all are held together by visual and material continuity. The result is a carefully balanced dialogue between permanence and transformation. Original elements such as the parquet flooring are reactivated through a new system of spatial and material interventions that redefine domestic life. Conceived as a meeting place for shared projects, it occupies a former neighborhood dairy that still preserves traces of its history on its layered walls, now home to a dynamic creative workshop open to experimentation. Located within the creative courtyard of Portuense 201 — an urban microcosm of contemporary ideation and expression between the former Mira Lanza site and the former Ostiense industrial area — the studio integrates into an ever-evolving design ecosystem, in harmony with a Rome that is transforming its disused areas into spaces for cultural production. 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐈𝐍 𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐘, 𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐀𝐍 𝐆𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐑𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐎𝐂𝐄𝐑𝐎𝐒 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒 𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐙𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐍 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐒𝐓 𝐌𝐈𝐆𝐔𝐄𝐋 𝐀𝐅𝐀'𝐒 𝐒𝐎𝐋𝐎 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐖 "𝐎 𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐏𝐎 𝐐𝐔𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐀 𝐄𝐌 𝐌𝐈𝐌" In Rome, @rhinocerosroma is hosting the first solo exhibition in Italy by Brazilian artist Miguel Afa, "O tempo que mora em mim" (The time that lives in me), in collaboration with @agentilcarioca , on view until June 3, 2026. Landscape and the affective dimension are central elements in Afa’s work. While some works are based on photographs, others originate exclusively from the artist’s memory. A recurring element in his practice, the image of the courtyard often appears in the compositions as a meaningful space associated with the sentimental sphere. Brazilian poet Manoel de Barros suggests that vast worlds exist within small spaces such as the courtyard: “I think the courtyard where we played is bigger than the city.” This idea resonates in Afa’s practice, where intimate and collective spaces are explored through multiple forms, activating memories that traverse different geographies and times. For this series, the artist draws on elements from the world around him, which become a true living archive, preserving traces of passages, movements, and continuities. Painting becomes a symbolic practice: a place of formation, encounter, storytelling, and imagination. 𝐈𝐒𝐎𝐋𝐀 𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍 𝐅𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐒 𝐈𝐓𝐒 𝟏𝟎𝐓𝐇 𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐀𝐓 𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐀𝐍 𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍 𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 Isola was born from a simple yet radical idea: responding to a clear gap in Milan’s design landscape. Back then, young and independent designers had few opportunities to exhibit during the design week, often limited by a lack of available spaces and increasingly prohibitive costs. Isola emerged as an open, accessible platform to give these voices visibility and space. That founding spirit has remained unchanged. What began as a district-driven initiative has grown into an international design network, expanding first across Europe, and more recently to the Gulf region and Dubai where Isola Space opened the doors in November, while continuing to place people, stories, and local contexts at the centre of its curatorial vision. This 10th edition marks both a return and a continuation: a celebration of where Isola started, and of how far a community-led approach to design can travel. Reflecting on Isola’s journey, Gabriele Cavallaro, co-founder and CEO of @isola.design Group, states: «My first home in Milan was in Isola. You could feel the neighbourhood’s energy and independent spirit. We built the first edition quite literally by knocking on doors, one by one. Few believed it could ever become a design district, so we embraced the idea of being the “Fuorisalone pirates”. Bringing together designers from around the world and working closely with local galleries and workshops, that first edition changed everything and marked the beginning of what Isola Design Group is today». The 10th edition of Isola Design Festival, themed "TEN: The Evolving Now," is open to visitors during Milan Design Week until 26 April 2026. Her three collections — Incisa, Signum and Fiora — express a refined and conscious idea of beauty, where detail is never decoration for its own sake but part of a coherent expressive system. All three collections are produced using the lampas technique, developed in linen and viscose, cotton and viscose, or cotton chenille, and presented in an articulated range of colour variations designed to naturally expand possibilities for both residential and contract interiors. Alongside these new proposals, @lopificio renews its Velvet Icons with the restyling of the iconic Silk Velvet and Cotton Velvet collections, a foundational part of the company’s identity. The collections will be presented in preview at Pavilion 13, Stand D51, Fiera Milano Rho, from April 21 to 26. During Fuorisalone, l’Opificio products will also be featured within Artemest’s “L’Appartamento” installation at Palazzo Donizetti, as well as at the Galimberti Nino showroom. In parallel, until April 30, at l’Opificio’s showroom in Turin, “Traiettorie Celesti” takes shape — a project by Pepita Design, developed by Mabo and l’Opificio, that transforms the space into an immersive landscape inspired by the passage of comets. Hosted by @superattico__ in Milan’s vibrant Porta Venezia Design District, the exhibition brings together the work of two Rotterdam-based designers: @matthijs_koerts and @merijnhaenen . Both designers dismantle familiar devices into their essential components, and reassemble them into immersive spatial installations that invite new ways of experiencing these forces and materials. These interventions transform the architecture, turning light into an active force that reshapes the room’s perception. Beyond Milan, UNBOXING will also be framed within the Rotterdam design scene, with public events before and after the exhibition that reflect on the development of the project. This continuous exchange between Milan and Rotterdam strengthens Spazio Viruly’s role as a platform for the evolution of new work, fostering connections between international design communities.
