PLY+ undertook a conceptual design project to support the University of Michigan’s School of Nursing in bringing its old nursing school building up to current university standards.
The final scheme consolidates underutilized classrooms and offices into a student commons and lecture hall. Additional amenities, such as a staff kitchen, breakroom, gender-neutral bathrooms, and reflection room, were also integrated into the new plan. Focused design interventions ensure an integrated and economic interior approach. The ceiling layout of the commons space and built-in elements not only accommodate additional building systems but also meet the programmatic needs of the new spaces while refining existing degraded finishes.
