Since Pulp Fiction won the Palme d’Or, the Hollywood star has turned each of his visits to Cannes into a memorable event. This year, he takes us on board a project that is as unexpected as it is exciting. Presented in the Cannes Première selection, One-Way Night Coach brings to the screen the aviation passion of a man who, with more than 70 film roles to his name, is also an accomplished professional pilot. Adapted from his book published in 1997, the film draws on his childhood memories and his first flight to unfold a colourful journey through the golden age of commercial aviation. 🇵🇭 I had the privilege of mentoring 20 Villanova Social Justice Documentary students while they filmed 2 stories in the Philippines, one on Boracay and one on the tiny island of Halian off the coast of Siargao. On Boracay, the Ati tribe is facing displacement on their ancestral lands due to the effects of tourism and capitalism, while on Halian @sealady15 born and raised on the island, is on the frontline, leading the conservation effort of her island home by educating and empowering the island youth to value and protect their ecosystem through their traditional and sustainable practices. This is all part of a bigger movement to decolonize the Philippines, placing value on the environment and traditional ways that are sustainable. Both of these Filipino stories are being told by this group of focused and dedicated students. I accompanied mainly the Halian team, but am proud of all them for all the hard work and heart they poured into these shoots. Looking forward to seeing it all come together in post.
