National Indoor Championships 2025 šŸ“󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁓ó æšŸ„‰ Last weekend, I shot at the @archerygbofficial National Indoor Champs, both as part of the @scottish_archery Team in the Home Nations Champs, as well as in the Individual Championship. I am proud of how I performed this weekend, one full year after first competing at a national comp. The individual round fell short of what I can do, but similar to what I’m currently shooting at the moment. A mixture of form changes, mental load, and less time to shoot has impacted my performance, and although I’m working on it, I am currently not shooting my best. So, this was an opportunity to put my mental work into practice; acknowledging that I might not achieve the best results, but not letting it get to me or affect my performance further on the day. I was very happy with how I handled my nerves, and I can point to some arrows where positive self-talk before the shot resulted in a better execution. As always, I greatly enjoyed the head to head matches. @erin_archery and @km_archery were wonderful teammates and we all put in some great arrows! @freya__archery was right behind us and a strong support. Unfortunately, we lost out against England, but won our match against Northern Ireland, securing a Bronze Medal. Having made the cut, I progressed to individual matches on Saturday where I was matched up with @marilyn_wong29 . We’ve shot together before at university competitions so it was great to meet again. It was a tight match, but Marilyn brought it back to win 6-4. Despite the loss, I enjoyed the match immensely and I know I put up a fight! 😁 In between shooting, it was great catching up with all the Scottish and British archers who I don’t often see. I had a lot of fun doing a social media takeover for @ustaarchery and from asking people what they love about Champs, the strong community aspect of archery shone through. I am eager to get back to my notes and continue to train, with BUCS and the Scottish National Indoor Champs on the horizon. Shout out to the Airbnb gang who added to the fun ā¤ļø Huge thanks to @saintssportau for supporting my training and travel. šŸ“ø: @archery_bimble and @katherine__archery

Yesterday, I got emotional at my beloved tree outside my window being cut down because of the New Tech Building fire. It’s been a staple of my PhD: looking outside my window, especially when things get tough, and observing the passage of time in the tree’s changing leaves. But now it serves as a reminder that nothing lasts forever, whether good or bad. So, here’s a little tribute to my beloved tree. 🌳

DUBAI šŸ‡¦šŸ‡Ŗ 7 days in Dubai, 2 conferences, 1 unforgettable experience! When I heard that @icomgc was going to be held in Dubai, I knew I had to go! Being towards the end of my PhD, I submitted my core work which got accepted and I presented it in front of museum professionals from across the world! The session was organised by @avicom.faimp and Sustain, the A/V and Sustainable subcommittees of ICOM so it was the perfect home for my research and I discussed it with researchers doing similar things in other countries. I was also happy to see a Maltese contingent present at ICOM. Thank you @audrey.curates for gathering us all! I later found out that @beatport ’s @internationalmusicsummitdubai was also going to be held in the same week, just a block away from ICOM. Two days of talks and events about electronic music and culture in the SWANA region. It was both fascinating and inspirational attending a more industry-focused conference and I loved getting to know all the DJs, artists, and producers, and hearing from international artists like @bedouin_official , @hugelthug and @djhabibeats . Shout out to @sofia23rd who is doing some cool work with music, poetry, and AI, and @philolorenzo who is definitely one to watch! Can’t wait to meet again in London, Phil! After the long conference days, the days blurred into nights hanging out with new friends in beach clubs, rooftop bars, culminating in @groovinculture ’s energetic night with @youssefawadly , @misc_jess šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡¬, and @christelleamkurls šŸ‡±šŸ‡§ Needless to say I felt right at home and although the week went by quickly, I’ll surely be back! #lifeofaphdstudent #culture #research #dubaišŸ‡¦šŸ‡Ŗ

I moved to Scotland and the UK 5 years ago today šŸ“󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁓ó æ I still remember the excitement I had as I embarked on my MSc year which has turned into my biggest adventure yet! šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§ I’ve graduated once, and twice in the works, did research work across Scotland, tried all the sports I could (and kind of stuck to one šŸ¹), hiked, camped, danced, and spent more time than ever surrounded by nature and the sea. šŸŒ… I’ve met so many people from across the world, their paths and mine merging and diverging, but leaving their steadfast mark. I’ve gotten to know myself more than I ever did. And I can’t wait for what’s next! šŸŒ P.S. it sure was difficult picking just 20 memories here šŸ˜…

Scottish Tour Stage 4 šŸ„‡ Last weekend saw the final stage of the Scottish Tour, this time at @balbardie_archers . This was the 3rd stage I competed at this year, and although the competition was very close, I walked away with my 3rd Gold medal. It was a great day spent with a lot of archery friends. Thank you once again to the organisers for a superb event! On to the shooting; lately, I have been struggling with getting tighter consistent groups so the first half of the ranking round suffered, with a score of 250. However, I refocused on my technique in the 2nd half, paced myself a bit more, and increased the score to 280, meaning I ranked 2nd after @leahs_treats_and_targets ā€˜s amazing score with 530. The Head 2 Head matches against @katherine__archery , @erin_archery , and Leah, were very tight, adding to the pressure and resulting in some shaky shots. Ultimately, I edged ahead to secure the win. This meant that I have qualified 1st for the Scottish Tour Final, which will be held on 07 September! I am very excited for this event, which has a different format to the other stages. šŸ“ø: @williams_archery_page @bridey_simpson #barebow #archery @scottish_archery @ustaarchery @saintssportau @eastofscotlandarchery @archerygbofficial #studentarchery #archerytarget #womeninsports #archerylove #worldarchery #archerylifestyle #archerypractice #archerybettertogether #archeryaddict #SportingSubcultures #ArcheryArtists #archerygirl #archerylife #archersofinstagram #archerygram #bowandarrow #katnisseverdeen #bowseason #targetpractice #hungergames #archerymindset #archerytraining #archerychampion @merlin_archery @eastonarchery @kinetic_archery @fivics_official @the_art_of_barebow_archery

Home Nations 2025 šŸ“󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁓ó æ Where to begin? Coming up to this weekend I was so excited to experience a team competition and to represent Scotland for the first time! I packed up my campervan and headed to Macclesfield where we had our official practice on Friday. Trying to understand how to shoot on a very slopey field was…interesting. The WA720 ranking round on Saturday was not where I wanted to be. Being selected to represent a country based on score and then underperforming on that hit hard and I was feeling disappointed in myself. Adapting quickly to different conditions, like an uneven range, is something I need to continue working on. However, it was fantastic to meet the Welsh and English archers on my target and to share little trinkets from our countries. I also had the Barebow Women Team matches with Fiona and Sandie, and the Mixed Team matches with @williams_archery_page to work towards. We were matched against the English team who shot brilliantly all weekend. Unfortunately, we missed out but it was a joy to finally shoot alongside Will and get to know @knibb_goingthedistance and @renebekker_archery who I follow on the National Tour. Sunday saw our Bronze medal matches. I leaned into the head 2 head pressure, gave it my 110%, and shot much better. It was close, losing 5-4 to a shoot-off in the Women’s Team and to a draw in the Mixed Team. The wonderful thing about Team competitions is that you always have someone to celebrate your wins, and to encourage you to keep going after a loss. Throughout the weekend I was supported by Scotland’s management and it was insightful to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes in this sport. I got to know my fellow Scottish archers better, walked away with a Bronze Medal for Scotland, and really left Macclesfield part of a stronger team šŸ’Ŗ
