Deliberately informal, The Social pairs a photographer with another photography professional who each offer tips on a theme. Participants are encouraged to join in, based on their own experiences of the evening.
The theme for this session is making and publishing zines and other small self-published books with Pippa Healy and Dilly Thain.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Martin Parr. His work had a huge influence on me long before I ever met him. His stills for the series Signs of the Times were the first photographs that made me understand how the everyday could become extraordinary, how a simple moment could hold humour, humanity, and truth all at once.
When I first started in photography I printed at Michael Dyer. The first time I went to see my prints they had pinned them up next to Martin’s — I felt very honoured!.
In 2018, by complete chance, I ended up sitting next to him on a flight to @rencontresarles . I was nervous, but he was warm, curious, and generous with his time and advice. He bought a copy of my zine and added it to the @martinparrfdn archive. That short journey gave me confidence in my own work, and I know he gave that same sense of belief to so many others too.

Beat those September Blues and join me for an analogue photography walk in the beautiful Regent’s Park.
This guided walk celebrates the magic of shooting with film and slowing down to observe.
Participants will use 35 mm analogue film supplied by The Photographers Gallery Bookshop.
I will share tips on working with film, embracing imperfections, and capturing atmosphere.
Meet fellow film photography enthusiasts and get hands-on shooting with a roll of experimental film chosen from a lucky dip! This could be a roll of Dubblefilm, Revolog, Psych Blues, Kono! film etc...
We shall start at The Photographers’ Gallery at 11:00am, after which we’ll walk to Regent’s Park, capturing the sites of the area, circling back to TPG.
There will be a 10% discount for all participants in the Bookshop @tpgbookshop throughout the day. Plus an additional 20% on experimental film.
Your ticket will also include free entry to TPG current exhibitions!
