5 new podcasts to listen to this week 💥 Thank you for featuring us and for the lovely write-up in The Irish Times. "Gangster Presents: The Story of Ronnie Biggs is immediate and engaging; it wastes no time getting the show on the road. The immersive podcast flips between Mays reporting historical facts and present-tense storytelling, peppered with sound effects to effectively draw listeners into the story. The radio audio, music and emotive descriptions of the era’s atmosphere teleport the listener to the Sixties in no time at all. The podcast provides important historical context to every moment and is as informative as it is entertaining. Featuring illuminating comments from people who knew Biggs, as well as unheard audio from the man himself, this podcast is both the perfect entry point to the story and an excellent retelling for those already familiar with the history." The Experiments | File on 4 | Sound Design & Original Music It was very moving to be invited into this powerful project as a sound designer and composer. Jack Butcher investigates allegations that children in West German welfare institutions were subjected to widespread medical abuse, including medical experiments. During the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, many children found themselves in West Germany's sprawling network of children's institutions. In recent years, Germany has been shocked by revelations that some were used as guinea pigs for powerful new drugs, including potent anti-psychotics, as doctors worked hand in hand with pharmaceutical companies to observe the effects of new medications on young children. The allegations were first brought to public attention by Sylvia Wagner, a pharmaceutical historian who grew up in a care home, and whose own brother was a victim of medical abuse. Pulling together Sylvia's research, speaking to victims and digging through the documentation, Jack Butcher and reporter Ilona Toller, who led a major investigation of the scandal for German national radio, lay bare the horrendous human cost and tell the story of the tenacious activists who have challenged the conscience of their nation. Producer and Presenter: Jack Butcher With reporting from Ilona Toller and Anouk Millet, and additional research by Leonie Mombaur. Executive Producer: Robert Nicholson Sound Design: Phoebe McIndoe Mix: @arlieadlington Listen: /programmes/m002tpqf

Thank you to all the contributors of our county lines series which broadcast on BBC 4. It was incredibly moving to see how powerful the sharing of lived experience is. And the difference it makes in shifting opinion, policy and legal frameworks. Huge thanks to @osceorg for bringing so many people together to have these conversations. @sosa_est for his continued work and eloquent testimony. And @fallingtreeproductions for giving our series life ✨

I'm very touched that our County Lines series with @redzi and @fallingtreeproductions for BBC Radio 4 has led to us being invited to Vienna for the OSCE conference against human trafficking. Tomorrow — I'll be speaking with Gaëlle Ortiz, Deputy Prosecutor, Interregional Specialized Jurisdiction (JIRS); Célia Bobet, Divisional Police Commissioner, LIMITS Project; and Lina Trovato, Magistrate, Catania. This round table aims to unpack an often-overlooked reality at the intersection of drug trafficking and human trafficking: the exploitation of vulnerable individuals in drug-related criminal activities, including through coercion, abuse of vulnerability, and forced criminality. The discussion is designed to: -Make visible forms of trafficking that remain legally and politically obscured; -Bridge human rights, criminal justice, law enforcement, and media perspectives; -Move beyond diagnosis towards practical implications for identification, protection, and accountability; -Encourage a more integrated response across anti-drug and anti-trafficking frameworks.

"A tender, yet provocative look at the issue that shies away from slogans and prioritizes understanding without demonization." Thank you for the lovely review of our mini-series Money Trauma hosted by the wonderful @mihosoon and produced with @martatlon and myself. And to @tinkmedia and the amazing @laurenpassell . Thank you so much for these wonderful words ❤️ "A new limited series documentary hosted and co-produced by Miho Soon, who got her start in crypto but started to get worried that the products she was making was encouraging gambling. (It’s co-produced and edited by Phoebe McIndoe, who has made some of my favorite things.) Money Trauma isn’t beating us over the head with tips, it uses storytelling to help us see the real ways most millennials and genZers have experienced financial anxiety." I'm really honoured to be speaking at this conference and moderating a panel of amazing experts with lived experience of criminal exploitation. A huge thank you to @sosa_est who will also be there to share his experience - you can hear Sosa speaking on the county lines series we made for BBC Radio 4, produced with @redzi and @fallingtreeproductions . On the panel we're incredibly lucky to have: Professor Siobhán Mullally, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Trafficking in Persons, especially women and children, and a leading expert in human rights law. Her work focuses on strengthening victim protection and advancing accountability for trafficking at the international level. Mr. Saken Kabibulla is a lived experience expert and researcher focusing on trafficking in cyber scam compounds, with particular insight into emerging forms of exploitation in Central Asia. His work brings a critical survivor-informed perspective to understanding coercion, control, and recruitment practices. Ms. Gaëlle Ortiz is a Deputy Public Prosecutor within France’s Interregional Specialized Jurisdiction on organized crime (JIRS), where she handles complex trafficking and criminal network cases. She brings extensive experience in prosecuting cases at the intersection of trafficking and forced criminality. Ms. Livia Wagner is Chief of Staff at the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, where she works on analyzing and countering illicit economies and criminal networks. Her expertise includes the intersection of trafficking, fraud schemes, and global organized crime trends. Last but not least, Ms. Märta Johansson is Associate Professor and Head of Research at Örebro University, specializing in criminal law and human trafficking. Her research examines legal frameworks, victim identification, and the challenges of addressing exploitation within justice systems.
