this was the most amazing year of my life. (but i was so intent on being sad that i didn’t realize it until it was almost over.) but GOD did i LIVE. i wandered from Hawaii to Mexico to Paris to Japan and a bunch of cities in between. i turned 40 and i sung with @calvinearlyspeaks and @osopepatrisse and @samorapinderhughes . i finished a book with @vegabrandon_ . i did a seven day silent retreat. i started a play. i celebrated 20 years in @bnorbeout . i saw @khruangbin and @clipse . we opened @therootsbooksandmarket with @danny_basquiat and @zaybo777 and @theceejames and the whole city. i transitioned from @blackmenbuild . I OFFICIATED A WEDDING!! (Thank you @staceyyy13 and @yourcomradeshaw ). i cried a lot and died a lot. big love to my community that shows up for me when I’m swimming in the abyss. I’m back in the land of the living because of yall. all who wander are not lost.

🎶🗣️🎤 STUDY WAR NO MORE. last thursday we opened a Portal. i still don’t know how to feel. maybe because there’s no such thing as “knowing” how to feel. overall i feel gratitude. thank you @calvinearlyspeaks for letting the spirit move, for stepping out in faith, for opening yourself to all of us and for allowing me to honor my commitment to Danny and myself: to sing more, create more, be brave more, stretch more. the spirit gave me this song as a symbol and signal. thank you. on another note, i turn 40 in 40 days and I’m calling in more opportunities to use the gifts that the Spirit has given me. To be the vessel, the servant, the light that i am meant to be. ancestors that i know, ancestors that i don’t know, ancestors that know know me better than i know myself, please protect me, fill me, show me the way. #40for40 #completethemission

so very grateful for April. a month for the books. in between each of these photos, i was losing it a little. (nah, a lot). my mind was spinning out something serious and my body turned on me a little bit. more accurately- as @anunez21 put it - my “check engine light” blinked on my biological dash. (so i guess my body was doing exactly as it was supposed to.) either way, the control that my ego craved proved elusive. and…that wasn’t easy to reconcile for Philly, to say the least. but I’m thankful for @therootsbooksandmarket , a slice of heaven in hellish times. grateful to all my friends (too many to name) for hosting me in their homes, cooking for me, listening to me ruminate, holding me down. @bsatz @ghostnoteagency thank you. @100hubristic_windmills thank you. @pargett thank you. @ahmadabuznaid thank you. @bsturdivantsr thank you. @artlovetrap thank you @richiereseda @mikemilton314 thank you. @therealmaxpierre thank you. @bertrand_boyd thank you. @bagnew_realty22 @theceejames THANK YOU. @zaybo777 thank you. tomorrows a full moon. ready to play in May.

florida — this is what fighting back as an elected looks like. while politicians rig maps, silence voters, and treat our democracy like their personal property, some people are still willing to put their bodies and voices on the line. today, Angie Nixon disrupted the florida house special session to protest illegal gerrymandering and demand accountability. she’s making it clear: we do not have to accept politics as usual. we do not have to surrender our voice, our power, or our future. florida deserves leaders who will fight back against racist attacks on our democracy—not benefit from them. watch. share. organize. vote. #AngieNixon #FloridaPolitics #Florida #VotingRights #Gerrymandering Democracy VoteFlorida PoliticalAction

“Roots Bookstore and Market is a grassroots bookstore featuring local authors and community-donated books, as well as an open event space for children’s readings, book clubs, music gatherings, and more. That feeling of community is not only experienced by those who walk through the store but also embraced by the local community as a space of opportunity. Like fellow South Floridians, I can’t help but feel both warmth and inspiration when taking in the space.” Special thanks to @crdllll for highlighting the work with a great article.

❤️‍🔥 14 years ago today, we marched from Daytona to Sanford for Trayvon Martin. We were angry and heartbroken, but bound by a collective commitment that carried our pain and crystallized our purpose. We knew then what many are still waking up to now: the criminalization and oppression of our people aren’t isolated. They’re connected to prisons, policing, borders, and poverty. A system designed to protect profit over people. And today, that truth is more urgent and louder than ever before. Working-class people are being squeezed from every direction: rent, wages, food security, and basic survival. Meanwhile, billionaires and big money corporations are doubling down on waging wars for control, resources, and political power. The administration and headlines may have changed, but the conditions? Have exacerbated. That’s what makes this anniversary especially promising. Because 14 years later, we’re not just naming the problem but steady forging a path forward. Fam. We don’t just need moments, we need formations. What gives us hope is the growing understanding that we have to get organized in deeper, more meaningful ways. We have to build political homes where people are trained, anchored by the belief that a true revolutionary is guided by love, and ready to fight for the world we deserve. From the beginning Dream Defenders set out to build a pipeline of young Black and brown people ready to lead beyond any single policy or moment—and we’re still on that journey. Here’s to the future: to choosing each other, getting in formation, and building the power our communities have always deserved. ♥️🖤💚 — 🔥Pledge to fight billionaires and corporations—and build power for the working class at classruinseverything.com Link in bio 🔗

There’s a reason this book will feel the way it does. It wasn’t written all at once. It was built line by line, conversation by conversation between brothers trying to tell the truth. These poems are a glimpse into that process. Two voices. One intention. To speak life into Black boys. To offer something real in a world that too often offers distortion. To remind a young brother that who he is… is already enough. This is what P.S. Eye Value You is made of. Not just poems, but offerings. Not just words, but care. To everyone who has already pre-ordered: thank you. For believing in this. For investing in these boys. For helping us carry this message forward. If something in these poems speaks to you, imagine what the full book can offer. Pre-orders are live. First printing. Limited run. Link in bio or P.S. We see you. We value you. #PSeyevalueyou #BlackBoys #BlackLove #ChildrensBooks #BlackAuthors #WeSeeYou #BlackJoy
