Now we finally get to watch it together! On May 22nd, the DEEP-LIGHT community is coming out to support the theatrical release of I LOVE BOOSTERS. This past Monday at @petits_salons was incredibly special, with live appearances from Boots Riley, Guy Pearce, and Natasha Braier ASC! The evening opened with a conversation from @bootsriley and @natashabraierasc to discuss their upcoming film @iloveboostersmovie 🛍️ It was so special hearing Boots (writer/director) and Natasha (DP) speak about their creative collaboration, their mission to tell stories that make a difference, and the power of art as a connector across humanity. Thank you so much to Boots and Natasha for spending the evening with us, and challenging our perspectives on the meaning and power of art! Following the Q&A, we launched into our screening of THE ROVER, another film that Natasha worked on as DP. We had a delightful surprise — Guy Pearce showed up for an introduction and Q&A! Guy and Natasha shared stories from their time shooting the film in Australia 13 years ago, exploring the relationship between actor and cinematographer, and the magic that can be found on screen when that relationship is strong. This will be a conversation on the making of the film followed by a filmmaker’s surprise screening for our audience. I Love Boosters is an absurdist comedy that follows a group of shoplifters who steel high-end fashion and resell it at discounts. When they take aim at a cutthroat CEO, it escalates into a battle of class-struggle. Similar to Boots Riley’s past film, Sorry to Bother You (2019), the film explores anti-capitalist rhetoric through social satire and will no doubt make for an entertaining making-of conversation. Last Monday @Petits_Salons screened #TerrenceMalick’s directorial debut BADLANDS (1973), starring #MartinSheen and #SissySpacek! It was one of our favorite nights on the rooftop of the @petitermitagehotel . @sampressman , son to the film’s executive producer Edward Pressman and head of @pressmanfilm joined us to share the company’s history with the film and how they’re moving forward. It was a pleasure to hear about their auteur-focus and desire to be “soldiers of cinema in the trenches together”. Thank you for joining us! Written, produced, and directed by Terrence Malick, Badlands is landmark of American independent cinema. The film is loosely based on the real life murder spree of Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugit, following an impressionable teenage girl from a dead-end town and her older greaser boyfriend as they embark on a killing spree in the South Dakota Badlands. @gold_star_music opened the night with an awesome live set.
