Happy composer! My full scores for "A Hundred Years On" arrived from the printer, and it feels so good to FINALLY hold printed scores for both this work AND "American Mosaic." Together, these 2 pieces represent well over 2 years of creative work.
Some numbers tell the tale: combined, these 2 pieces total 79 minutes of music for large forces. The 2 full scores combined are 316 pages, and the 2 sets of orchestral parts total a whopping 1,231 pages! 😳🤯 For that, I must thank my publishing agent Bill Holab for his engraving expertise.
I'm thrilled with the incredible assemblage of talents performing these big new works. On June 17,
@philorch ,
@thecrossingchoir , and soloists
@dunleavy6654 ,
@meredithlustig ,
@evegigliotti ,
@davidportillotenor , and
@maestroweather , conducted by
@anthony_parnther , and director Tazewell Thompson, will premiere "A Hundred Years On," at
@highmarkmann , which commissioned the work (libretto by Mark Campbell) to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The journey with "American Mosaic" is already well underway. With my music, and stunning imagery by Joe Sohm, this "America 250" work was co-commissioned by the
@natsymphonydc , which premiered it in February (Thomas Wilkins, conductor); the
@cincysymphony for the Cincinnati Pops, which performed it in March (
@maestrojmr , conductor); the
@desmoinessymphony , which will perform it in July and September (Joseph Giunta, conductor); the
@detroitsymphony , which just joined the group, and will perform it in July (
@jaderbignamini , conductor—more details coming soon!);
@pacificsymphony , which will perform it later this month (
@alexander_shelley , conductor); and
@wmbgsymphony , which just performed it last week (Michael Butterman, conductor). AND, the
@natsymphonydc will perform it with Music Director
@gianandreanoseda conducting, at
@wolf_trap on August 15, and the
@hollywoodbowl on August 18!
After all of those, the
@stlsymphony will perform it in November (JMR, conductor), and even more are in the works. My composer cup runneth over, and I'm deeply grateful. Without a doubt, the endless hours of work on these pieces were well worth it! Warm thanks to all the commissioners and performers.
