Fans of Disney classics and live orchestral performances will soon be able to experience The Lion King like never before as the @philorch performs the film’s iconic score live at the @highmarkmann for the Performing Arts this summer. Presented by Highmark Mann, Disney’s The Lion King Live in Concert takes place on June 20, featuring the beloved animated film screened in its entirety while the orchestra performs Hans Zimmer’s Academy Award-winning score live in sync with the movie. Originally released in 1994 by Walt Disney Animation Studios, The Lion King remains one of Disney’s most celebrated animated films, known for its emotional storytelling, unforgettable characters, and legendary soundtrack. The film’s music was created by an award-winning team that includes: Elton John Tim Rice Hans Zimmer Lebo M Together, they crafted iconic songs and orchestral pieces that helped define a generation of Disney films. Set across the African savanna, The Lion King follows Simba, a young lion prince navigating destiny, loss, betrayal, and redemption as he ultimately returns to reclaim Pride Rock. Live-to-film orchestra performances have become increasingly popular in Philadelphia, combining the emotional impact of cinema with the power of a full live symphony performance. Set under the stars at the Mann Center, Disney’s The Lion King Live in Concert is expected to be one of the season’s biggest family-friendly events. On this day in 1876, the Centennial Exposition held its opening day ceremonies right here in Philadelphia! To commemorate the event, Highmark Mann has commissioned A Hundred Years On, a new oratorio by composer @peterboyermusic and librettist Mark Campbell. This exciting world premiere on June 17 will be conducted by Anthony Parnther, directed by Tazewell Thompson, performed by @philorch and @thecrossingchoir . Tickets start at just $18.76!
