Community… its time! This year we have 6 amazing students we will be supporting as they embark their next chapter, College! Recipients: Bronx Williams, Heavyn Harmon, Jaelle Watkins, Kennedy Farr, Mariyah Ellis & Mykia Johnson Perry, owner of “Perry’s Joint Sandwiches,” believes he must give back to the community he’s a part of. Therefore, one day out of the year, Perry conducts a full day of business where 100% of the proceeds earned will serve as a collegiate scholarship to several graduates from the San Gabriel Valley, located just a few miles from his shop (Perry’s Joint Sandwiches). This year, The Community Driven Scholarship will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Perry’s Joint on Lincoln Ave. in Pasadena, CA. But like last year, Perry is extending the scholarship to GoFundMe to give everyone a chance to donate from the comfort of their home. #PJHSCDS25 #pasadena #perrysjoint

Community is important; it is the heartbeat of our neighborhoods. We find community in the early morning hours at an independently-owned coffee shop to the evenings spent dining with neighbors at a long-standing establishment. One thing is for certain: our communities showed up for immediate action and support in January, following the wildfires. Over the last few months, our offices worked on legislation and casework to assist those impacted. My District Staff, alongside the Offices of Assemblymember Jessica Caloza (AD52), Assemblymember John Harabedian (AD41) & LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, took a field trip to @perrysjoint to share a meal together. This post isn’t about the food at Perry’s Joint—though if you’ve had it, you already know it hits every time. 🔥 I’ve been coming here for nearly 20 years. And through all the growth—multiple locations now in the Pasadena area—what stands out most is Perry himself. He’s committed to family community, relationships, mentorship, progress, growth, generational knowledge, entrepreneurship, and pouring into people. I’ve pulled up to Perry’s with my team as a coach, with my family, with friends, and with anyone who just needed a good meal made with more than just two hands—made with heart. The food is always on point. But to me, it’s Perry that makes this place what it is. My wife @callmechristyjoy and the kids had a wonderful time there yesterday and had another conversation with him yesterday that has the ability to make an impact! Shout out to my man Perry!
