:What happens when the thing you love most starts hurting you?
That’s the conversation @ultrabirch and I had with @peafunkk on this week’s episode of @enduringmindspodcast
We talked about identity, mental health, eating disorders, pressure, healing, and the reality that many endurance athletes quietly tie their self-worth to performance.
This isn’t a hopeless conversation.
It’s honest and human which means there is laughter, vulnerability and connection.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by training, questioned your worth after a bad race, or struggled balancing mental wellness with athletic goals… you’ll want to listen to this episode.

You don’t run LALV to be seen—
you run to feel.
You run into the unknown,
where time dissolves
and the desert forgets your name.
Each step writes a story in dust,
each breath, a secret shared with the silence.
Out there, under starlit stillness,
you don’t just run—
you disappear.
And something deeper takes your place.
It’s been over a month now since our adventure from the Santa Monica Pier to the Las Vegas sign ended—and dare I say, I still crave both what those 85 hours gave me and what they took from me.
Anyone who’s done something like TSP will probably agree: it’s far more than just running 300 miles.
For me, it’s…
- the impromptu game of hide-and-seek on the “garbage” segment with Chalo
- 3 a.m. chats with Cole, sitting in the bed of the truck eating PB M&Ms, talking about our states of delirium
- the *Project X* album with Wynne—the only thing (aside from a failed attempt at a smut audiobook) that got us through a 20-mile surge to Nils’ birthday surprise
- finishing a leg and turning back at the end of Powerline to see Holly less than a quarter mile behind us
- the LOADED McFlurry after crossing Route 66 and heading into our first real climb
- quite literally falling into a pile of dirt to sleep
- seeing Tom on the descent into Vegas and just losing it
- getting butt naked and Wynne covering me head to toe in ice until my body *started reacting* (basically, she wouldn’t let me move until I started shivering)
- those frickin’ Subway sandwiches—goddamn
- putting on Lucy’s glitter when I questioned my entire life on Powerline (because women are elite)
- going into a donut shop at 2 a.m. to celebrate mile 100
- losing my crown to a Now and Later at the finish line (as if the toenails weren’t enough)
There are countless more moments to look back on. But the beautiful thing I’ve come to learn about experiences like these—and TSP—is that they stay with you. They shape you. They teach you. They show you the beauty that can come from suffering.
They help you find your people.
Your community.
Yourself.

It’s rare to find a friendship like this one. One that at the darkest of moments, exudes so much light. When you think there is no reprieve, there comes this glimmer of hope which transcends into endless amounts of laughter.
Chalo, you were everything I needed and more to get through this experience. You were my rock and my biggest source of light.
Mornings were certainly the hardest. My body hurt, and was not at all rested from the hour or two of sleep. My demons were the loudest. It’s where I doubted myself the most, and questioned my capabilities both physically and mentally.
Yet there you were. Each morning you walked with me for hours on end. You told our brand sponsor, and they trusted you and your vision, that I needed you, and that you couldn’t do content during that time. You saw this experience for what it truly was and leaned fully into it. It was not about creating beautiful content or winning a race.
It was in Rob Perez’s words, about the adventure. What we could both take from and leave behind in the desert. The friendship. The chance and opportunity to grow, and seizing it. It was to lean into the suffering and to realize that I didn’t have to do it alone. And as I leant in more, to acknowledge the beauty in the suffering. The beauty in the pushing of all my physical, mental and emotional barriers, alongside those who made and make the suffering worth every bit of it.
It was about slowing down to look around us. To make friends with the desert (and our dear friends Juanito and Pepe).
Chalo, you deserve the world and more. And thank you for helping me see that I deserve just the same.
I cannot wait for our next adventure.
85 hours and 53 minutes after leaving LA, @peafunkk is the queen of Las Vegas Boulevard and the winner of @thespeedproject solo.
Cheers to Pusha P and her crew - @wynne.doh , @twnsnd and @chalo_films - for working together through the desert. And hats off to @rushbynature for the epic battle. They call it “TSP Solo” but no one does it alone.
