Skratch Labs is a sports nutrition company based in Boulder, Colorado.
Our mission is simple. Make sports nutrition that tastes great, helps athletes perform better, and does not make you sick.
The idea started when exercise physiologist Dr. Allen Lim saw professional cyclists getting sick from sports drinks that were too sweet, too artificial, and too hard on the gut. So he started from scratch in his kitchen, mixing real ingredients together to create something that actually worked.
That “Secret Drink Mix” quickly spread through the pro peloton. When it proved it worked, Allen teamed up with former professional cyclist Ian MacGregor to turn that homemade solution into Skratch Labs.
Today we still follow the same principles:

GI distress during exercise usually isn’t one simple thing. 🤢
Heat stress, intensity, dehydration, and overly concentrated drinks can all make it harder for your gut to keep up when you’re training or racing.
Dr. Allen Lim explains that drinks with a lower concentration than blood can help support the movement of water across the gut. Pair that with cooling strategies, and you may give your gut a better chance under stress.
Here’s some tips to help with GI distress:
🧃 Keep fluids cold when you can
🧊 Use ice bandanas or ice socks in the heat
💦 Dump water on your head
🍼 Pay attention to bottle concentration
🚴♀️ Practice your fueling before race day
Sometimes GI issues aren’t about having a “weak gut.” Sometimes your gut is dealing with too much heat, too much concentration, or too much stress all at once.
