For the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts annual showcase house l, @rebeccajhansen transformed the vestibule and powder room with layers of pattern, texture, and joyous color.
Hand-illustrated wildlife wallpaper sets the tone, with mustard trim pulled directly from the print to frame the architecture and carry the palette throughout.
Patterned terra-cotta tile, warm wood paneling, leopard print drapery, and brass detailing unfold with a sense of confidence rather than excess and brings unexpectedly modern elements to the historic Baldwin Oaks estate.

Another way to view utilitarian spaces. This Mudroom simply proves you should never judge a room by its name.
The Mudroom for the @pasadenashowcasehouse by @gexdesigns transforms a once purely functional space into an art-driven interior layered with custom cabinetry, patterned flooring, and botanical tones. With a refined nod to California’s indoor–outdoor lifestyle, practicality is elevated through materiality and disciplined design detail. The practical use of the room is highlighted in the built-in bench, stain-grade countertops, and deep brown walls. But beyond these utilitarian elements, soft café curtains, floating window shelves, and a dog nook connect the space to the interior of the house itself. A sheen wall panel ceiling installed in a V-pattern, anchored by a brass fixture at the center, weaves the practical elements of the room into a more welcoming tone.
Reimagined as a functional threshold, the space balances utility and atmosphere through cabinetry and pattern. It reads as both passage and a considered design moment embedded in daily life.

The Magnolia Room by Cordrey Collection (@cordreycollection ) channels timeless Southern elegance through a botanical lens, inspired by the estate’s surrounding gardens and the magnolia tree, capturing the essence and grace of spring.
Sage accents are set against a custom magnolia blossom wallpaper. A sculptural pendant above the bed echoes the form of the magnolia petals. A custom bed, tactile textiles, custom upholstery, and custom wall covering—each designed by Steven Cordrey, define the room with refinement and seasonal ease. A window seat is integrated as a subtle architectural gesture. Plush seating and tailored bedding reinforce the room’s sense of repose. On view through May 17.

@missoni leads the breakfast nook designed by Karen Billman where pattern and color refreshingly replace the expected materiality and color pallet of a kitchen.

Drawing upon the enduring principles of the Arts and Crafts movement, Blue Brick Design’s Entry for the Pasadena Showcase House of Design honors early 20th-century ornamentation through a contemporary lens.
The studio’s design is anchored by @wmorrisandco ‘s iconic Strawberry Thief pattern from the Huntington Collection, seamlessly bridging the upstairs and downstairs transitions.
Antiques and one-of-a-kind, previously unseen artworks bring depth and authenticity, shaping a warm, quietly transportive entry intended to spark curiosity and whimsy as guests pass through. The ensemble of richly tonal materials, tactile textures, and sculptural lighting evocative of Alberto Giacometti reveals the entrance’s fresh interpretation of traditional design.
