The @entertain_ai conference in Montreal was exciting, and various views were expressed. It was good to witness the vibrancy of Quebec's scene. I enjoyed sharing insights from 25 years of creating art with computation, robotics and AI. It was the first time I gave the opening keynote! A couple of my messages: A technological tool, for example, a hammer: - Can be used to build something useful - If you don't know how to use it, you'll hurt your fingers - You can hurt your neighbour with it - You can sculpt a masterpiece. The same goes with any technology, including AI AI doesn't change anything to the fundamental questions you must answer as an artist. What? why? how? (not necessarily in this order) Photo: @evablue

Algorithmic Fatalism (extract) 2026 Modern humans are increasingly outsourcing their free will to predictive code. From what we eat and watch to who we date or how we vote, we have developed a trait of "submitting to the feed." This is a shift away from personal intuition and toward a reliance on data-driven recommendations. It results in a narrowing of the human experience, where people live within "echo chambers" and feedback loops that reinforce their existing biases, making the individual more predictable and easier to manipulate.

Through drawing robots, immersive installations, textiles, AI-driven rituals, painting, choreography, and performative encounters, the exhibition unfolds as a meditation on the evolving relationship between human intuition and machinic agency. Here, code becomes gesture, the machine becomes witness, and technology emerges not as a replacement for humanity, but as an extension of perception, memory, and spirit. Chapter I presents Patrick Tresset’s singular universe, where robotic agents translate the human impulse to observe and portray into delicate rituals of ink, movement, and repetition. Visitors are invited to become subjects within Human Study #1, participating directly in a performative ecology of portraiture. Chapter II opens a dialogue between Tresset and Celine Shen, whose interdisciplinary practice navigates the porous boundaries between textile, body, digital matter, and synthetic consciousness. Together, their works propose new cosmologies in which humans and machines coexist within shared emotional and ecological systems. ✨ Performance highlights include Codes Morpho by Celine Shen on June 2 and Robot Journal following the artist talk on June 13, where authorship, embodiment, and transmission are reimagined through human–machine collaboration. #contemporaryart #digitalart #newmediaart #performanceart
