I‘m always excited when we publish a new edition of TIDE Magazine…the latest is truly one of our best…...remember….I always say that. The cover photo is by @mac.geo and is remarkable. The depth in this photo is timeless. The mag opens with a celebration of CCA’s 50th Anniversary, the initial banning of gill nets in Texas, and the establishment of Gamefish Status for redfish and trout…..amazing to think how far conservation has come!! Among the features, there is a great article on Texas tides by @dannowise , a unique tarpon piece by @chazlevine , and a look into restoring Baffin’s Serpulid rocks by the rockstars (pun intended) at @harteresearch . It’s always worth the read!!
I think I always say each edition of TIDE Magazine is my favorite when it gets published…but I think I really mean it this time. The cover is one of the very few exceptional photos I have ever seen of the incredibly un-glamorous red snapper. Only @jason_arnold_creative could pull off making a snapper actually look elegant. Among the features, @dannowise has a fantastic one on finesse fishing for trout and redfish, and stalwart writer Frank Sargeant has a Florida piece that is amazing. Best of all is the Best Photos of 2025 for the magazine. It is led by a past cover shot by @shannonvandivier with additional incredible shots by Jason Brooks, @legenderryaustin , @aftco , and @ccasouthcarolina . I imagine the next edition will be my favorite as well…but for now, I’m still voting for this one.
@patrickdmurray served as commencement speaker for the Fall 2025 graduates of Texas A&M Corpus Christi @island_university
Rather than focusing on his current role as National President of CCA and The Building Conservation Trust, he shared life lessons shaped by years on the water as a fishing guide—adapting to changing conditions and learning from experience.
A thoughtful message to the TAMU–CC Class of 2025, congrats grads! 🎓🌊

I‘m always excited when we publish a new edition of TIDE Magazine…the latest is truly one of our best. The cover photo by @shannonvandivier is simply stunning. He’s best known for his award-winning film work but his still shots are incredible. Among the features, there is a great article on Texas mangrove snapper by @dannowise , big trout tips from the amazing @the_guide_post , a visit back to my all-time favorite outdoors-lifestyle/cooking book Afield by the ever-inspiring @sac.a.lait and a conservation feature on white sea bass from our friends at @aftco . It’s definitely worth the read!!
Had the chance to moderate a Q&A panel with @bencmasters and Matt Rice at the Houston debut of Ben’s amazing new film The American Southwest. What an incredibly powerful and inspiring film!! Congratulations to Ben and the @finandfurfilms team. You have a lot to be proud of!!
