Three million and counting.
Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute recently hit a milestone with the release of its 3 millionth tagged white seabass, part of a long-running effort to rebuild the fishery along the Southern California coast.
In 1986, @hswri released its first juvenile white seabass into Mission Bay in San Diego. Since then, the program has continued releasing fish into local waters through ongoing hatchery and enhancement work.
Each fish carries a coded-wire tag, helping researchers track survival, movement and how these efforts play out over time.
Milt Shedd, one of HSWRI’s founders, believed in giving something back: “To return to the sea some measure of the benefits derived from it.”
And it’s still the standard today.
