Such deep gratitude for this incredible childcare team! Our kids are in incredible hands! We believe in making kids apart of the mission, of modeling for them what it means to honor their mothers! And we’re providing top notch care in addition to acitivies that will keep them engaged and enjoying the festivities as well!
We’re excited to feature @patchyprojects at Illuminate Kensington on Friday April 3rd.
Patchy (they/she) creates high tech interactive art installations and is based in West Philly. For the event, they will be projecting onto the side wall of @atlantislostbar .
Don’t miss the magic on April 3rd!
6 weeks?! 6 weeks until our glorious celebration of all that is Art and WEIRD returns to the sacred streets of East Kensington?! Did you know Benjamin Franklin themself formulated the asphalt used to pave the 2400 block of Martha Street? It’s true, don’t bother googling it. There’s a much higher soul to stone ratio than normal Philadelphia asphalt. It’s like 86%. You can only really tell during the 3rd new moon of the 13th month, but it really compliments the color of your eyes. Anyway, in honor of the state of soon, here is the full version of the WEIRDO 2023 highlight reel made by the always awesome @watchmerisefilms ! Seriously, you want a grant get a highlight video. We couldn’t do it without you Nic. Speaking of grants, thank you @penntreatyssd for making our day possible. We have some amazing stuff happening in 2024, including @big_howl , @tangle_arts , @theskateboardacademy , whatever @rumikitchen is cooking up and returning favorites @archedream , @modularonthespotphilly , @rollercircus.official , @fire_museum_presents , @luminous_abstract and @awfulwrestling ! We’ll be back @themonkeyclubphilly , @philadelphiabrewing , @o_g_pizza and new this year in the Quick Stop parking lot and the @closeathandphilly space! Our friends @nowandthen_marketplace will be back alongside our own Midway of WEIRD, and I hear they’ll have stuff happening @posthastephilly , @forincafe , @great_circles_grcr , @atlantislostbar , @thunderbirdsalvage@middlepathminerals@runehammer.games and let’s throw @fiorefinefoods on there even though I haven’t talked to them yet because I will at least definitely be getting a bomboloni… I’m probably forgetting something, I apologize in advance. See you Saturday, October 19th! Costumes encouraged! BE WEIRD WITH US! #eastkensington #philadephia #weirdo #weird #art #music #dance #weirdart #halloween #fall #autumn
Hyper Mirror is a 100 square foot immersive installation featuring an 11 foot screen, which is also a mirror that plays digital art at 8k resolution. It was shown in collaboration with @danielarsham at Art Basel in Miami, then purchased by @wndrmuseum in April of 2023. Huge thanks to Wielgus Product Models for fabrication, @necatuss for sound design, and @patchyprojects + @thegladscientist for bringing it all together with @touchdesigner . Special thanks also to our manager @mrproduc3r , and our installation team: @ashleywolve@lordrileypatricknelson and @itsmedeonreed
Philly's got plenty of weirdos - we've collectively dated a lot of them - so if you're down to celebrate / get a little weird, too, make your way to @weirdooddfest at @philadelphiabrewing this weekend for the East Kensington Arts & Oddities Festival!
Saturday, November 4th! @awfulwrestling returns to this glorious celebration of all that is art and WEIRD! Enjoy a performance by @archedream
Wear your costume from Halloween, there will be candy! Also @rollercircus.official rolling around! And @thomwalljuggler@domaskbz performing an entire show!
@weirdooddfest is back at @philadelphiabrewing and the surrounding areas of East Kensington!

What would you build with $590 and dream? 🔮 In 2015, I received my first Art Grant from the wonderful folks at G.L.E.A. and built this floating sculpture for our regional burn )’( Lakes of fire.
Initially, being a young and naive artist I was like, WOW 600 bucks, I can build anything with that! Hell, I even budgeted a whole 20 bucks for gas to drive from Chicago to upper Michigan and back (pic 5). 😂
Two months later after spending triple that I was, and am, eternally grateful to be able to host a fundraiser at the legendary Catalyst Loft. 🛸
Early on I had some volunteers but did almost the majority of the fabrication. On site, Johanna, Kenneth, Billy, Noah and a few others helped with the assembly. (Kenneth, if you’re reading this I am so so sorry that we tricked you into coming into a freezing lake and forced you to work when you thought we were “splashing around and having fun”)
🤿
on the first day i woke up, and someone yelled out your sculpture is gone! 😳
it was true. The wind had taken the sail all the way across the lake where it became entangled in weeds. Go figure. Project was named solar sail after all. ⛵️
thankfully, I received a lot of encouragement from some of the longtime burners and still felt pretty good overall about the project despite the mishaps. If I remember correctly, an image of the art piece was even used as the home page banner of their website for a year. It felt great to be able to contribute some thing to an event I cherished, especially since my previous art grant had been rejected.
I still have those Laser Cut wooden panels today. And the freaking screws sticking jaggedly out of the back cut me nearly anytime I try to move them.
I share this very personal story with you today, in the hopes that if you are a young artist you will be encouraged.
The best advice I can give you, is that art is simply doing the best you can, in the time allotted with the materials at hand. If anyone is willing to become a benefactor as you learn the ropes, consider that an investment in your education It’s OK to spend your savings, to make a dream come true. In the end, those first little steps may just change your whole life.
