Happy Days, not just going back to my roots, but submerging deep into my two-wheeler past. Started this here at home weeks ago by re-vitalizing my good old KTM half liter thumper that was a sleep for too many years in order to get this old man’s body into shape. Muscle-memory all over and the rest did follow. Torrential rains, Andalusian terrain, flooded riverbeds and just enough sunshine to keep us going made this into my first encounter with this beautiful event but for sure not my last. Last week like 4 different borrowed bikes passed between my legs just to keep me going day after day but I promised myself: next year I will drive my own built. Have a spare Triumph T120R on the shelve, looking for a Metisse frame from the Rickmann brothers to pair it to.

As a rookie DP he walked me trough the KGS warehouse one day: ”So you’re looking for something for a music-video? Well here’s a rotating boss or two and a paddlemount with speed-pipes. Take it, MENNEKEN and go have your fun. You might need some counterweights also!” That is how I remember my first encounter with Pierre and he kept on showing me tools I never knew they even existed. Pierre, always joyfull, smiling, joking and with this twinkle in the eyes! Thank you for the many good memories and planting the seeds. I hope your spirit of back then may live on forever trough a community of grips that you showed the way.
I hope our kids Ben & Lester will continue to get along forever as @les_fizapapas .

Exactly 25 years ago, august 1998, 4 men and a lady chased the fastest men on earth on the Utah Salt Flats loaded with gear and admiration.
Seriously expired Kodak negative & Ektachrome stock was all we could afford and Marc’s savings paid for the expenses. It was one of the most intense weeks I experienced ever and I still have deep respect for the drivers and members of the Plus 200/300/400 miles
Clubs we all met: All Teague, Denis Varni, Ken Walkey, Max Lambky…
Marco Lagoona directed, Paul Delnoy recorded fabulous sound and Didier Moens fixed what needed fixing. See them on stage these days at any La Muerte concert.
This 25 years jubilee makes it the right time to run the footage trough a recent scanner
again because it deserves better resolution than the VHS quality on you tube when one searches this documentary on the web. The missing blue’s and greens of the expired filmstock combined with the whash-out of the bright salt resulted in the sexiest pallet and perfect match with the stories and subject.
Grading was done “after hours” or at night when the telecine was free and available.
My colorist then was Lieven Van Baelen who later on became a high end commercial & feature director / Directing -Dop, on the URSA gold at ACE in Brussels.
Bonneville or bust premiered @ Mirano in BXL and I remember taking an eiki projector and 16mm copy to bars & parties with friends. Please enjoy some footage and pictures from the “door of fame” in our workshop with some 100 plus prints that always make visitors wonder and ask questions… Punk is not dead !

Slowly getting ready for work again after the best time-off ever by this (late) post
on Pineau De Charantes, call it a family affair. We shared most hats within our inner circle
with Otten Senior Directing- DOP, Angela pulling focus and Lester moving camera & objects
around. Our motorized Arrihead , motorized swing and arri lensmotors were used to move glasses and bottles around. Cees Visser mastered the ingredients & liquids like only he can best and our most beautifull lenses did the rest. I’m proud having made this with basic gear from the workshop downstairs and limited time for prep & shoot.
