COCO Virtual Series: Help Solve A Murder Join the Creatives of Color Oregon (COCO) initiative for a virtual screening of Help Solve a Murder. This powerful project, created by filmmaker and advocate Asianique Savage, is a six-part docuseries that centers on the Black mothers and families in Portland, OR fighting for justice in the face of unsolved gun violence. Savage - who serves as the Director of Gun Violence Prevention at the Alliance for a Safe Oregon and is the Co-Founder of the non-profit Senseless Violence Leads to Silence - brings a deeply personal perspective to the screen, having lost both her mother and brother to violence. The screening will be followed by a live Q&A with Savage to discuss the film’s mission, the role of community-led activism, and how we can collectively demand accountability in a broken system. 📅 When: Tuesday, May 12, 2026 | 6p - 7:30p LINK IN OUR BIO OR REGISTER AT: tinyurl.com/help-solve-a-murder

Join us for a special virtual screening of Black & White, an award-winning experimental short film by Oregon-based filmmaker Edgar Garcia Chavez, followed by an opportunity to learn more about his work and creative approach. Black & White offers a striking and thought-provoking exploration of how language shapes our understanding of race and identity. By examining traditional dictionary definitions of the words “Black” and “White,” the film uncovers the historical biases and cultural meanings embedded within them - inviting viewers to question what we often take for granted. Bold in both concept and visual style, the film challenges audiences to look deeper, reflect critically, and engage with complex ideas around perception, representation, and meaning. Edgar Garcia Chavez is an award-winning independent filmmaker whose work centers on diversity, acceptance, and the human experience. His films often explore themes such as identity, time, and collective consciousness, encouraging audiences to confront difficult questions and see beyond the surface. Whether you're a filmmaker, storyteller, or simply curious about experimental cinema, this is a powerful screening you won’t want to miss. Best Experimental Micro Film at Oregon Documentary Film Festival (USA) Best Cinematography North America at the Alternative Film Festival (Toronto, Canada) Best Short Film at Black Truth Film Festival (USA) Best Experimental film at Austin Micro Film Festival (USA) Best Drama at Snohomish Film Festival (USA) Best International Short Documentary at The International Black and Diversity Film Festival in Toronto, Canada.
