@georgesingerstudio Lua — a suspended light sculpture capturing the graceful movement of silk. Commissioned for a private residence in North Vietnam, Lua is made from over twenty thousand solid glass balls, each meticulously hand-painted in shades of amber and frosted white. Its form was inspired by the natural flow of silk, with gentle undulating curves and sweeping folds that create a sense of elegance, serenity, and grandeur. Designed in collaboration with digital artists @onformative , Lua was developed using advanced simulation technology that translated the movement of silk into a sculptural form impossible to create by hand. The placement of each glass ball is guided by the “tension” within the digital silk model, merging craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. Illuminated from above by @johncullenlighting spotlights and lit from within by hundreds of fibre optic lights, Lua offers a dynamic lighting experience — from soft, tranquil evening mode to vibrant party mode — all controlled via a wall-mounted iPad. Lua stands as a statement of how digital innovation and artisanal craftsmanship can combine to express a new, elevated form of contemporary beauty. Lua is the Vietnamese word for silk. Lụa — a suspended light sculpture capturing the graceful movement of silk Proud to have collaborated with @georgesingerstudio once again on this project. Created for a private residence in North Vietnam, this installation features over 20,000 hand-painted glass balls in amber and frosted white. Using advanced simulation technology, we translated the natural flow and tension of silk into sculptural form, with bespoke software guiding the placement of each glass ball. Illuminated by spotlights and hundreds of fiber optic lights, Lụa, vietnamese for silk, offers dynamic lighting modes to create various different atmospheres. This piece represents the perfect fusion of our procedural system building and creative algorithms with George's masterful craftsmanship and artistic vision. Thrilled to return to @offf_mx after seven years – it feels like coming full circle since my 2017 talk. This time, I'll be sharing the stage with incredible creatives like @roberthodgin , @sixnfive , @boldtron , @xk.studio and many others. 2017 feels like a different era in our industry. The experimental ideas we explored then have become the creative foundations of today. Now I'm looking forward to reflecting on this incredible journey and sharing what we see coming next :sparkles: #OFFFMexico #offf @offfest

In an era dominated by AI-generated imagery and instant digital creation, we're witnessing a renaissance of the physical. At onformative, we've always believed that the medium should serve the story, not the other way around. Our "Meandering River" research began as an audiovisual installation in 2018, capturing the imperceptible dance of landscapes shaped by natural forces through real-time algorithms and AI-composed . Seven years later, it continues to mesmerize audiences at exhibitions worldwide, from Ars Electronica to the UN Geneva and soon Signal Space in Prague But we've always wondered: how would these fluid, organic movements translate into physical form? How do you capture the essence of erosion, the poetry of meandering waterways, in something you can touch? Today, we're excited to share that we're exploring exactly that. We're developing our first prototypes for a physical Meandering River sculpture, transforming years of algorithmic research into tangible, sculptural forms. In times when everything can be generated instantly, the physical becomes precious again. How do you see the role of physical art evolving in our AI-driven world?

Today marks 6 years since our founder Cedric Kiefer shared his vision for AI in artistic practice at Google I/O 2019, alongside brilliant @sougwen and K Allado-McDowell from Google Arts & Culture. 📺 /watch?v=sb69lYnO624 AI has been integral to onformative's creative process for years, driving our exploration of its potential and shaping new perspectives well ahead of the recent AI hype. During our session "Machine Learning and New Forms of Art," we discuss how machine learning enables novel artistic expressions, from robot collaborations to computational models of natural phenomena. Reflecting on this, it's fascinating to see how many of the early insights have become central to today's creative AI discourse. Our commitment to integrating AI into the creative practice remains strong as we continue to explore the intersection of art and technology. Our approach thoughtfully integrates technological innovation with artistic vision, Shaping New Perspectives on the role of technology in the creative process. #AIArt #CreativeTechnology #ArtAndTechnology #GoogleIO #machinelearning

Today's Earth Day Google Doodle inspired us to share this #ThrowbackTuesday! 🌎 12 years ago, back in 2013, we created "Google Faces" - our algorithmic exploration that sent digital agents hovering over satellite imagery to discover faces hidden in Earth's topography. These satellite "selfies" showcase the fascinating phenomenon of pareidolia - where natural landforms accidentally create facial features that our pattern-seeking minds and algorithms can recognize. Our Agents traveled endlessly around the globe, discovering these moments where Earth seems to be looking back at us. A perfect reminder of the beautiful dialogue between technology and nature that continues to inspire our work Explore the full project at /work/google-faces #EarthDay #GoogleDoodle #DigitalArt #Pareidolia #googlefaces #google

For 20 years, generative design has been at the core of our work. We're constantly exploring new ways to apply it, moving beyond beauty and aesthetics to drive true product innovation. The output varies, but the general approach and way of thinking remains the same — that's the true power of generative design. We asked ourselves, what if simple algorithms could unlock the future of material design? From 2D patterns to 3D structures: We're exploring the transformative power of algorithms in applied material design, moving beyond aesthetics to redefine product innovation. Discover how we're bridging the digital and physical to create innovative solutions for footwear, fabrics, and beyond. Enjoy a first teaser of our ongoing Material Innovation Research and stay tuned for a full project docu soon. #MaterialInnovation #AlgorithmicDesign #GenerativeDesign #Innovation #Design #Technology #productdesign
