Lua — a suspended light sculpture capturing the graceful movement of silk. Commissioned for a private residence in North Vietnam, Lua is composed of over 20,000 hand-painted glass spheres in shades of amber and frosted white. Its form echoes the natural flow of silk — soft undulations and sweeping folds that convey elegance, serenity, and grandeur. Created in collaboration with digital artists @onformative , Lua was born from advanced simulation technology that translated the motion of silk into a sculptural form impossible to craft by hand. Each glass sphere follows the tension within the digital fabric, merging meticulous craftsmanship with cutting-edge innovation. The lighting, designed with @johncullenlighting , transforms the sculpture’s atmosphere at the touch of a wall-mounted iPad — from a calm, ambient evening mode to a vibrant party mode. Soft, washed light from the downlights blends with the twinkling of hundreds of fibre optics — tiny firefly-like sparks that bring the sculpture to life. A seamless fusion of digital art and artisanal craft, Lua embodies a new expression of contemporary beauty — where light, movement, and emotion intertwine. Lua — the Vietnamese word for silk. The Zephyr installation is 60 meters long. Yes, 60 meters. And at 8 meters wide and 5 meters deep is quite a volume to behold. Difficult to capture the scale in still photography but I’ll be posting snippets of the film soon to provide a better feel for the sheer size… ______________________________________ #artinstallation #standrews #fairmontstandrews #madeinlondon #lightinginstallation

Lua — a suspended light sculpture capturing the graceful movement of silk. Commissioned for a private residence in North Vietnam, Lua is made from over twenty thousand solid glass balls, each meticulously hand-painted in shades of amber and frosted white. Its form was inspired by the natural flow of silk, with gentle undulating curves and sweeping folds that create a sense of elegance, serenity, and grandeur. Designed in collaboration with digital artists @onformative , Lua was developed using advanced simulation technology that translated the movement of silk into a sculptural form impossible to create by hand. The placement of each glass ball is guided by the “tension” within the digital silk model, merging craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. Illuminated from above by @johncullenlighting spotlights and lit from within by hundreds of fibre optic lights, Lua offers a dynamic lighting experience — from soft, tranquil evening mode to vibrant party mode — all controlled via a wall-mounted iPad. Lua stands as a statement of how digital innovation and artisanal craftsmanship can combine to express a new, elevated form of contemporary beauty. Lua is the Vietnamese word for silk. There is something very interesting and pleasing about repeats There are three Wutang chandeliers in the ballroom of the illustrious Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in Chelsea. Three because there are three ceiling voids. Three because there are six dining tables that are positioned through the centre of the space Symmetry and repeats are pleasing to the eye. It’s undemanding and provides a sense of relaxation and satisfaction. The interior is grand, subtle, tasteful, and full of lovely repeat patterns The interior designers at @1508london did a wonderful job of using these repeat patterns in a very sophisticated manner Photo credit @solo_nichol_studio _____________________________________________ #chandeliers #ballroomchandelier #madeinenlgand #mafeinlondon #customchandelier

Often with our designs, the light source is bespoke and handmade. In the case of the Wutang chandeliers, there was no exception Each of the five light sources consist of ultra-highly-quality LEDs mounted to a hidden heat sink, surrounded by a handmade, fluted, borosilicate glass tube, a handmade internal diffuser, and hand-made brass caps If components are made by hand you have absolute freedom to make them beautifully. All of our light sources are different because they’re only made once Photo credit @solo_nichol_studio _________________________________________________ #chandelier #handmade #madeinengland #lightinginstallation #artinstallation #hotelchandelier @1508london

There is some really interesting geometry in the grand ballroom of the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in Chelsea, west London: The recessed ceiling voids are square; the room is rectangular; and the chandeliers are octagonal The depth of the ceiling voids are enough to ‘feel’ deep, and the drop of the chandeliers was very carefully designed so the chandeliers are easily visible from all angles but don’t encroach on the diners below As my father used to tell me, ‘God is in the detail’ ______________________________________________ #chandeliers #ballroomchandelier #handmade #madeinlondon #madeinuk #artinstallation @1508london
