Lua — a suspended light sculpture capturing the graceful movement of silk.
Commissioned for a private residence in North Vietnam, Lua is composed of over 20,000 hand-painted glass spheres in shades of amber and frosted white. Its form echoes the natural flow of silk — soft undulations and sweeping folds that convey elegance, serenity, and grandeur.
Created in collaboration with digital artists
@onformative , Lua was born from advanced simulation technology that translated the motion of silk into a sculptural form impossible to craft by hand. Each glass sphere follows the tension within the digital fabric, merging meticulous craftsmanship with cutting-edge innovation.
The lighting, designed with
@johncullenlighting , transforms the sculpture’s atmosphere at the touch of a wall-mounted iPad — from a calm, ambient evening mode to a vibrant party mode. Soft, washed light from the downlights blends with the twinkling of hundreds of fibre optics — tiny firefly-like sparks that bring the sculpture to life.
A seamless fusion of digital art and artisanal craft, Lua embodies a new expression of contemporary beauty — where light, movement, and emotion intertwine.
Lua — the Vietnamese word for silk.
