We are so thrilled to announce our new research project with Sustainability Solutions Group on Climate Action Best Practices in UK cities to help inspire other cities to ramp up their targets to align with limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C. Five years into the Paris Agreement, countries around the world have failed to reduce emissions in line with the Paris Treaty targets to limit global warming to 1.5°C. But cities are a bright spot. Many have developed climate action plans in line with—and often more ambitious than—the Paris targets, and are pushing higher levels of government to take bolder action.
UK cities have some of the world’s most ambitious targets, with many adopting goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2030. Link in bio to learn more.
Today, for World Cities Day, @pathway2paris , @onethousandcities and @earthspeakr encourage kids to reach out to city officials about how their city is run using the Earth Speakr app. Together we’ll amplify the voices of young people and bring their Speakr messages on climate change to city-planners across the world.

Since 2014, @pathway2paris has been committed to finding tangible solutions to turning the Paris Agreement into reality and combatting global climate change. This week, the world is indoors, and though we cannot be together outside, enjoying the beautiful Earth, it is truly a time to reflect on our actions, both as individuals and on a global scale. This is our time to make a real shift, to transition away from fossil fuels into a world of 100% renewable energy. Together as a planet, we can unite and make this dream a reality. 1000 CITIES is currently working on a carbon calculator specifically tailored to determine how much carbon is left to burn in each city of the world. Based on population and certain ethical parameters, this carbon calculator can be adapted to unique circumstances in each city to highlight the carbon they have left. In tandem with this calculator, we are conducting a research project which examines the climate targets of flagship cities around the world. Using our calculator and information gleaned via our research-we are offering specific recommendations for how these cities (technically, financially and policy-wise) can accelerate their climate action plans to meet the 1000 CITIES standards.
