The picture that emerges throughout Reveal is one of magic rediscovered.” — Q Magazine (2001) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
25 years later, R.E.M.’s Reveal remains a landmark album — lush, reflective, and home to standout tracks like “Imitation of Life,” “All The Way To Reno,” “Disappear,” and “I’ll Take The Rain.”
Revisit the album at the link in bio — and stay tuned for more Reveal news in the weeks ahead….
REVEAL, the band’s 12th studio album, was released this week (May 14/15) in 2001. The album, produced by Pat McCarthy and the band, featured singles “Imitation of Life,” “All The Way to Reno (You’re Gonna Be a Star),” & “I’ll Take The Rain.” As we look back on 25 years, the band had many memorable appearances leading up to the release date: the South Africa Freedom Day concert in Trafalgar Square, Top of the Pops & Later…. With Jools Holland in the UK, MTV Sonic in Milan, the Black Sessions and Nulle Part Ailleurs in Paris, Musica Si & Los Mas 40 in Madrid, and the Cologne concert outside the Kolner Dom, to name a few. But as the saying goes, there’s no place like home where the traditional Album Release Party was held in Athens at the Georgia Theatre on May 14. That night, those in attendance were treated to a first listen of Reveal and a viewing of the Reveal documentary film by good friend Dominic DeJoseph. There was great food by Athens legend, Weaver D, not to mention the live auction of rare memorabilia, proceeds from which benefitted longtime Athens organization, Community Connection. There will be many more Reveal 25 memories to share, but for now, share your favorite song from Reveal in the comments.
Let’s go #REVEAL25!

“Approximately forty-two years ago, the combined members of The Dream Syndicate and R.E.M. performed an impromptu set at the Uptown Lounge under the name Adolf and the Casuals featuring Raul. It was a pretty chaotic night with some of the group members apparently being overserved. In the course of the evening, a medley of “Ghostbusters” and “Gloria” was attempted. Twice. In honor of that legendary night, Steve Wynn and I gave the two songs a valiant thrashing at our show last night at the Rialto Theatre in Athens.” -Peter
