‘How is what’s happening in Gaza even possible?’ @gabormatemd speaks after a free virtual screening of @sevenjewishchildren with the film’s director @omrijava and the co-director of @israelismfilm @erinaxelman ‘This is an article in Haaretz this morning, the Israeli newspaper. Rasha al-Ar’eer, a young Gazan girl, survived the bombing of her home in June last year. The experience prompted her to write a last will. This is a child writing her last will. The experience prompted her to write her last will on a piece of paper she kept in her pocket. ‘She wrote in red ink. Please do not cry for me. It hurts me to see your tears. Give my clothes to the needy. Divide my things up. The boxes of beads, the pocket money, the books, the toys. Among my cousins. Please don’t yell at my brother Ahmed. I hope you will respect my wishes. ‘On September 3rd 30th, the family’s house was bombed again. Rasha was killed, and so was Ahmed. She was 10, he was 11.’ Omri responds: ‘We must learn to accept the trauma that we have received and burdened generationally and not allow that to shut our eyes to the trauma of others. The fact that we’ve experienced this pain should mean that we open our eyes and see the pain that others are feeling and that we care about it and that we want to change it, not the other way around.’ Please listen to Gabor, and please donate to Medical Aid for Palestinians if you can. The Director of @sevenjewishchildren @omrijava writes in @bigissueuk about what this film means to him, and how making this film re-affirmed and expanded his Jewish identity. Omri writes: “My first professional short film Seven Jewish Children: A Film For Gaza was released on YouTube on 1 April. The film is an adaptation of Caryl Churchill’s 2009 play and, following Caryl’s guidelines for performance of the play, it is raising funds for the Medical Aid for Palestinians organisation. Structured around seven scenes, each depicting Jewish families grappling with how to protect their youngest daughter amid shifting historical and political landscapes. “At its core, Seven Jewish Children is a study on how traumashapes identity and how an oppressed people, through historical and political circumstances, can become oppressors themselves. It is about inherited fear, generational pain, and the gradual psychological shifts that allow one to justify actions once deemed unthinkable. 15 years after the play was first performed at the Royal Court, I believe it remains just as, if not more, urgent. “When Seven Jewish Children was first performed in 2009, it was met with intense criticism. Some accused it of being antisemitic, while others saw it as a necessary and unflinching look at Israel’s history. Today, those same debates rage on, but the urgency has only intensified. The film’s release comes at a moment when conversations about Israel and Palestine are more polarised than ever. But Seven Jewish Children is not an attack. It asks us to reflect on how fear and suffering, passed down through generations, can shape the way we see the world and, tragically, how we treat others.” Watch Seven Jewish Children FREE on YouTube now: bit.ly/7jewishchildren

Palestinian peace activist @azizabusarah reads ‘If I Must Die’ by the late poet Refaat Alareer - killed by the Israeli military in Gaza - at a screening of @sevenjewishchildren in London “If I must die,  you must live  to tell my story  to sell my things  to buy a piece of cloth  and some strings,  (make it white with a long tail)  so that a child, somewhere in Gaza  while looking heaven in the eye  awaiting his dad who left in a blaze—  and bid no one farewell  not even to his flesh  not even to himself—  sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up above  and thinks for a moment an angel is there  bringing back love  If I must die  let it bring hope  let it be a tale” We pray that Refaat’s words and message will live on forever, and that Free Palestinians in the future will read his words. @sevenjewishchildren is about the stories we Jews tell ourselves, the ones we don’t, and the ones we pass down to our children” Sami Manausa ( @in_sam_ity__ ) Jewish organizer and social media manager of @ifnotnoworg , discusses the importance of @sevenjewishchildren and how it explores the way that stories - the ones we tell ourselves and the ones we don’t - often define our identity and reality. She states: “’Seven Jewish Children’ is a must watch, especially for Jewish audiences. It’s intense, it’s emotional, triggering even, but all around, just really, really beautiful. “It’s essentially about stories, the ones we tell ourselves, the ones we don’t, the ones we pass down to our children about who we are as Jewish people and what our relationship is to trauma and oppression. Our historical and intergenerational trauma is being weaponized and hijacked by people that want to claim that Jewish safety can only come at the expense of Palestinians. “And in this moment, when the Israeli military is bombarding and starving the people of Gaza and settler violence is escalating in the West Bank, it’s never been more important to ask ourselves these questions. Who are we in this moment? Who are we if we look away? “What are we telling our children about this moment? This film is such a great vehicle for exploring those questions. You should watch it with your families, with your communities, and also donate to Medical Aid for Palestinians because they’re fundraising for it.” So grateful for Sami and all they do, and please donate to @medicalaidpal if you can, by going to bit.ly/donatemedicalaidpal

Israeli peace activist and Executive Producer of @israelismfilm Gili Getz endorses @sevenjewishchildren , stating: “I just watched for the fourth time a beautiful, powerful and poetic short film called “Seven Jewish Children.” And I want to highly recommend that you check it out. “It’s available on YouTube. It’s beautifully shot, beautifully acted, but most importantly, it deals with these very difficult and important questions about Jewish identity, about how we construct our narratives, what do we choose to include and not include about generational trauma, about ongoing trauma, about antisemitism, about the divide within the Jewish community, and about dehumanization and what it does to oneself and to others. “And as a peace activist, I know that this type of conversation is essential in order to move forward and build a better world for all of us, Israelis, Palestinians, Jews, Muslims, Christians and all people around the world. “So I really hope you check it out, and I hope that it starts a conversation.” Watch @sevenjewishchildren free on YouTube Now, and please donate to @medicalaidpal if you’re able to

Israelism’s Co-Director Sam Eilertsen endorses @sevenjewishchildren , stating: “Seven Jewish Children is a beautiful short film about the intergenerational trauma in the Jewish community and about the challenges of talking with children about some of these issues. “It starts with oppression being faced by Jews, anti-Semitism, the Holocaust. You know, how do you talk to a child about these things while they’re happening, while they’re in danger, while they’re under threat? And then it transitions to talking about oppression inflicted by Jewish people. “The Nakba, the forcible displacement of Palestinians, Israeli settlements, and the bombing, ultimately, of Gaza. And, you know, the horror of having to tell children about the children being killed, you know, on the other side of a wall, on the other side of a border. “And so it’s a great piece to think about the fact that, you know, we have to remember that as Jews, we’re just as capable of inflicting harm as anyone else, and that it’s not just in spite of, but because of our Jewish history and our Jewish values that we must speak out for the rights of all people, including Palestinians. “So watch the film. It’s raising money for Medical Aid for Palestinians ( @medicalaidpal ), and it’s on YouTube right now at bit.ly/7jewishchildren “ Thank you to Sam for your kind words. Watch our film as well as donate to Medical Aid For Palestinians if you’re able, and we’ve already raised over $18,500 for this critically important organization.
