@oho_interiors makes 1,500 square feet feel like a grand gesture in this Colorado carriage house. Relocating from Minnesota gave Melissa Oholendt the chance to turn this temporary home into the coziest kind of personal project for her family—one that proves small-space living can still pack major personality.

Thinking a lot about wallpaper recently over at Oho HQ, so we asked the team: If you could wallpaper one room in your home, which room would it be… and what wallpaper would you choose?
We think our custom millwork shines in every project, but it really, really, really shines in #OhoClassicTraditional. We leaned into adding charm and a collected, cozy feeling wherever we could, which meant custom cutout details in the dining room, mudroom and even on the brackets in the dining nook. In the library/den and kitchen, smart storage was our focus. The corner desk, storage bench and wall of cabinets were designed to help a young family stay organized.

This is just a glimpse of what’s coming together behind the scenes. Wait until you see how it all lands.
When we looked at this space, we saw an opportunity. With the sloped roofline, we designed a barrel-vault ceiling that animates the journey. We also worked collaboratively with the team to add a daybed window seat with reclaimed timber & White Oak cabinetry.
Instead of one long corridor, we created a series of moments. We love this part of design, where we find spaces that are easily overlooked and make them impossible to ignore.

Four rooms, four very different shades of blue at #OhoClassicTraditional. As always, we looked to balance rooms that felt bright and timeless with smaller moments of saturated, color-drenching for a home that’s cohesive, but not copy/paste.
Two panels and one presentation later… that’s a wrap on another @midwestdesignretreat ! For me, this week represents so many things that I care deeply about. Investing in community, celebrating our region (I love the midwest!!) and sharing knowledge with and passing along lessons I’ve learned to other designers. This year, Team Oho team even got to visit for a couple of days of the retreat. Feeling inspired and excited to install a few big projects (like @mysahus !) we’ve been hard at work on.
If home is where you long to be, then I believe your home should be created from the heart, shared from a hand and revealed as living art on paper.

We didn’t forget about #OhoClassicTraditional, did you? Today, we’re giving you a full look at the sunroom, aka the family room. With the furniture in general, but especially in this room, we leaned into a more traditional aesthetic. That meant thoughtfully mixing and layering patterns, from the seating to the rug, pillows, window treatments and beyond. A large, patterned sofa became the focal point, anchoring the room with personality and confidence.

This Month with Oho - April Edition.
Things kicked into high gear this month with prep for two major, multi-year project installs & photo shoots in May. We traveled to New Jersey, Colorado, Connecticut and Tennessee to present full design concepts, kick off new projects and do site visits for ongoing projects. We also checked in on our Minnesota sites that are currently varying between demo, drywall, cabinetry install and final electrical and hardware install. In the in-between, we designed, project managed, welcomed two new Oho Team members this month (hi Katie & Madison!), prepped for the Midwest Design Retreat and just had the best time together as a team of 10 (!!!).
May is already off and running so follow along as we have more fun as a team and get to travel, install and create more beauty together. ♥️
A kitchen before and after for the books! This house had gone through previous remodels, so while it wasn’t in bad shape, the functionality just wasn’t there for the homeowners, a young family. Before, the kitchen had an oddly shaped island that disrupted the natural flow of the space, rather than supporting it. Even more limiting (!!!), there was no access to the family room from the kitchen, disconnecting two of the family’s most important and often used rooms. So we connected them. And added lots of storage and style along the way. Including one of our favorite details, integrated cutting boards in a walnut stain to match the ceiling beams. It’s all in the details, people!
