How does language build barriers and reinforce inequity to careers in the Creative Industries?
I hopped on the Music for Education & Wellbeing podcast (hosted by @anitaholford ) last week to talk about our @youthmusicuk Industry Connect report and how it's mobilising sector-wide change with my second brain @who_is_mcbain . It was fun. We like talking.

I'm on a panel today @margins.united at @earthackney talking about our Glastonbury accessibility programme. So I thought I'd revive this mini-doc for those who missed it first time round...

Last week we lost a legend and beloved friend. 😢
We are sad to share that Karl Flood, aka @flood_dnb , passed away unexpectedly last week.
Since becoming a founding member of Levelling The Field @glastothecommon ,
Karl debuted at @rumshackglasto , DJing the closing set at Rum Shack in 2025
... then a classic show to thousands at @boomtownfairofficial with @krayzlegz@tiny.k.music@deafrave
Playing on @koolfmofficial
Signed to @unmuteroster
DnB Producer releasing bangers through @nattyspeaks
Those tunes getting rotation on BBC Radio 🔥 🔥
Living his dream.
Husband and father of two
... this is an enormous loss.
FLOOD was genuinely on the cusp of changing the game. Life is beautiful and cruel.
Karl openly and regularly told us how pivotal Levelling The Field and Rum Shack was to him, even championing Levelling the Field on BBC News.
In truth, we are the lucky ones to have Karl in our lives.
Karl left an indelible mark on all of us in his inimitable, funny, and often mischievous way. And a heart of gold, full of curiosity and talent. Karl reminds us of the power of music to change lives.
This is why we do the work.
He was a friend to us all.
Rest in power. We love you bro x

Now is broken. Imagine a future. Let's build it.
It's been 3 years in the making. We've been hatching something big for @youthmusicuk , with @who_is_mcbain . 🐣
In early March Youth Music's nomadic 'Industry Connect: Coalition', landed in Bristol for our second edition. 100+ music education organisations, freelancers, young creatives and educators united in the belief that...
We. Need. Change.
Industry Connect started as a consultation; deep dive research into the systemic barriers facing young creative careers in the Music industries. Our 90 page report called for a Coalition, amongst other recommendations already in motion.
And so this month the Coalition found it's wings 🦅
The two days at @bristol_beacon was deeply invigorating, beautifully challenging and boldly inspiring.
Propelled by top provocations (micro-talks) asking the hard questions @malakimnp@themusicworksglos@elizabethjbirch@miri_flc@cometobrazzill@artnotevidence ... workshops rich in conversation... the wealth of life experience in the room... And 🔥🔥 live performances
@theyisgrove (at 10am 😂😈⏰), @saffronrecords DJ @myathethird and Welsh language rap @manliketodz & Welsh folk @tara_angharad
Thanks to my amazing @lyrixorganix team @tobycortonmusic@lilianlyzander shadesoftate @_freya_grace@mysmvria@rebekah.wav , the Bristol Beacon team and Youth Music for their continued belief in us @michellemyriemusic itsEli_p, Daniel, Heather and Carol.
