The 2025 Curators’ Prize was awarded to @yaremaandkhimei (presented by @galeriepoggi , France) for their video installation « You Shouldn’t Have to See This » (2024). This silent 7’30’’ loop shows sleeping children — a tender scene that gradually reveals a deeper unease. The artists filmed Ukrainian children who had been forcibly taken into Russian territory and later returned to Ukraine. By revealing an intimate moment that should have remained unseen, the work questions the ethics of witnessing: every image of war is first and foremost evidence of a crime, and only then, possibly, a work of art — one that perhaps should never have had to exist. Launched in 2024, the Curators’ Prize is awarded by over two dozen curators from major international institutions, invited to the OFFSCREEN Curatorial Residency. You Shouldn’t Have to See This » (2024). © OFFSCREEN 2025, installation views.
