Well I finally made it, a seven year course completed over 26 years. There’s nothing quite like taking the long way round, the scenic route and a few diversions. I registered with the ARB at the end of March and can now call myself an architect.
I was fortunate enough to meet and work with a lot of wonderful people over the past few years. It would be impossible to name all my architectural mentors, but special thanks goes out to my old team at @bensmitharch , @ricardoalbagonzalez@and_this_too and @im.stela
Also to the warm, welcoming team at the Ben Adams Architects. Such a pleasure to work with all these talented, generous and hilarious individuals, even though I never fully lived up to their professional and demanding table-tennis standards. Pretty sad that we’ve all been made to part our ways…. We won’t talk about that here… anyway, here’s a bunch of us completely sober in a lift.
Fantastic weekend in Wales at the Centre for Alternative Technology, ‘A Way of Building’ course in collaboration with UEL Architecture students and tutors. @universityofeastlondon They achieved a huge amount given the time and numbers!
This year we made slight alterations to the ever changing slate plinth and walls, creating a fire hearth (with chimney!) and a new slate arch. Our timber group built a frame which sits above the slate, gentley hugging the walls on one side. And atop a slightly larger hipped/pitched roof made from square section lengths. Experimental hanging screen was attached at the end.
All elements built separately and independently with their own structural properties and come together to create a ‘loose fit’ coherent assembly. Amazing work within 2.5 days. Thank you to the wonderful staff at @centreforalternativetechnology

As some of you may know, after nearly 10 years I’ve decided to take a side step back into architectural practice and leave the ‘making’ behind. It wasn’t an easy decision, but there are countless factors that lead me to this direction that I won’t go into here. I’ve had a great run and enjoyed (almost!) every minute. I feel I have been incredibly lucky to have some of the best* clients over the years (you know who you are!).. and lucky enough to have made it through some very special and always challenging projects. I’ve met some marvellous and inspiring people along the way and some wonderful life-long friends. Thank you all for following me and looking and liking, and hope you continue to do so, even though the content might change a little. Having said that, I still haven’t finished the ghost trap……. the firebird……….. put my bike back together….. the garden…. endless house projects… the list goes on. So, we’ll see, I guess, then.
So it goes. Thank you.
Anyway, I had to cut down a few branches off my tree. So what better excuse to make a wee tee pee?
*Yes there have been some total shockers too, but we won’t go into that.

A little over a year ago the exhibition for Century Guild : Within Reach of All opened at The William Morris Gallery. I didn’t post finished pictures at the time and thought I would do so now retrospectively. The exhibition was wonderfully designed by @fieldworkfacility and expertly photographed here by @edparkphotography
The Century Guild was established by the architect and designer Arthur Heygate Mackmurdo (1851 – 1942), who later helped found the William Morris Gallery, and his assistant, Herbert Percy Horne (1864 – 1916), in close collaboration with designer Selwyn Image (1849 – 1930). They aspired to elevate crafts to the status of art, integrate both art and crafts in domestic interiors, and democratise good design. @morrisgallery

The Althea McNish exhibition ‘Colour is Mine’ is now open! Swing on by the William Morris Gallery @morrisgallery and take a look, you won’t be disappointed. Beautifully designed by @studionyali and @markelkhatib
Althea McNish: Colour is Mine is a landmark retrospective of one of the UK’s most innovative textile artists and the first designer of Caribbean descent to achieve international recognition.
More shots to follow but big thanks to Emma @dead.marys & James @_james_kelly__ for helping me make this happen and stabilising my sanity, for most of the time.

Absolute pleasure to be involved with these two humongous tables with the master maker @n.rouillard . Designed by @matteo.fogale for the new @couriermedia space in Hoxton. 4m x 1.5m in triply oak ply and another 2.8m x 1.4m in solid oak.

Lovely to get this studio desk to its forever ever home today! And it fits nicely into this recording studio I built last year. 🍒🔝🍰
The desk is mostly made from oak with a marmoleum top bonded to 24mm plywood. The legs were shaped using an mdf template and a router with a trimming bit and rounded over. No CNC here, just the good olde fashioned way. The desk can be fully dismantled and flat packed for transport, so watch out Ikea. Made with Festool knock down connector fittings, which are great and well worth remortgaging your home for. Finished with osmo as per.
Thanks for l👀king!
