⏳Women in Print opens on 18 October 2025⏳
Tracing the rich history of Liberty Fabrics, Women in Print explores the evolving influence and status of women in textiles over the past 150 years. Bringing together iconic patterns by designers including - Althea McNish, Susan Collier, Sarah Campbell, Lucienne Day - alongside previously overlooked names.
A newly commissioned film blends archival and contemporary footage with interviews from leading designers, offering personal insights into the stories behind Liberty’s most enduring prints. These voices bring to life the artistry and innovation that continue to define the industry today.
Women in Print is curated by Rowan Bain and Roisin Inglesby, William Morris Gallery. Conceived in partnership with Liberty Fabrics, marking the design house’s 150th anniversary.
Film & trailer by Chris Haddock @_ironandglass . Thanks to Anna Buruma, Sarah Campbell, Neisha Crosland, Natalie Gibson, Alison Lewis and Polly Mason for their participation.

Where great competition meets great craftmanship…
Not many get the privilege of getting close enough to the @emiratesfacup trophy to take in its intricate foliage detailing. For the Final ball, we set out to weave that story of the iconic trophy lift into the design, celebrating the journey through the Cup to its final crescendo.
To do it right, we took the ball to William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow - getting up close with original hand sketches and immersing ourselves in the history, craft and world that inspired the artwork behind the ball.
Two enduring British legacies, one of craft, one of competition - come together in a celebration of design. Morris believed beauty should be for everyone; and the @emiratesfacup has always belonged to anyone. That shared spirit sits at the heart of the design.
“There’s something quietly radical about placing a William Morris– inspired design at the heart of the Cup Final. His belief that beauty and joy should be shared by all feels right at home on football’s grandest stage.”
Hadrian Garrard, Director, William Morris Gallery

Ah, the Baftas. This week, I’ve been continuing my research into the work of Mitzi Cunliffe, who lived in Didsbury and designed the Bafta mask and loads of amazing sculptures and façades in her garage on Cranmer Road (there’s a plaque there now, thanks to the fabulous Modernist Society crew). She also designed some fabric for Liberty, which I’ve been focusing my thoughts on after my recent trip to the Women In Print show at @morrisgallery (swipe to end slide), and also David Whitehead Ltd, spotted just last week on display @whitworthart – I whooped! Here she is in what looks like a Biba top – I’m also discovering that she had a proper good dress sense and some natty accessories and jewellery to boot. #amresearching #amwriting #modernistsociety #mitzicunliffe #mitzicunliffemask🎭
