REINTRODUCING: Oceanic Global 🌊🌎✨
Oceanic means “of, living in, or produced by the ocean.” With the Ocean covering 70% of the planet, making up 95% of the biosphere, and producing over 50% of the oxygen we breathe, all life on Earth is inherently oceanic. Yet, modern life has caused humanity to forget that we are part of nature, growing more disconnected from the Ocean — the beating heart of our Blue Planet. Despite our deep reliance on the ocean, human activity is pushing it toward a critical state. Rising temperatures, depleted fish stocks, and declining carbon sinks all point to the urgent need for action 💧
At Oceanic Global, we believe that protecting the Ocean is essential not only to the Earth’s health but also to humanity’s survival and well-being. Our mission is to reconnect people with the ocean as the lifeblood of the Earth and offer tangible solutions for coexisting in harmony with nature 🌀
Swipe to learn more about how our core program areas bring this mission to life ➡️ Our initiatives are not just about addressing immediate needs but reshaping systems and restoring balance for the future ⚡️ Because no matter who we are or where we’re from, we are all oceanic 💙 Visit oceanic.global to learn more 🐋

On #EndangeredSpeciesDay, we’re reminded that some of the Ocean’s most iconic creatures are fighting for survival 🌊🐢 Leatherback sea turtles — the largest sea turtles on Earth — have existed for over 100 million years, yet today they are among the most endangered marine species. Threatened by plastic pollution, fishing gear entanglement, habitat loss, and climate change, populations continue to decline around the world 🌊 Protecting endangered species means protecting the delicate balance of our Ocean ecosystems and the future of life beneath the surface ✨ Every sighting is a reminder of why conservation matters and why urgent action is needed now more than ever. 🌊🌊🌊We're so excited to open submissions for our United Nations World Oceans Day 2026 poetry curation! 🌊🌊🌊 This year, the @unworldoceansday theme, “Reimagine: Beyond the world we know, a new relationship with our ocean”, prompts us to channel our closeness with the ocean and dream of what the future of our oceans can look like, recognizing our past with it. 🐟 For too long, we have treated the ocean as something vast, distant, and separate from us. We created that distance ourselves. The ocean has always flowed through us, in the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the climate that makes our lives possible. Now we are being called to reimagine that relationship. 'Reimagine' asks us to close that distance together. To move from passive inheritors of the ocean’s generosity to active guardians of its future. To govern not just beyond our borders but beyond our blind spots, beyond the habits of taking, operating in silos, and the belief that the way things have been is the way they must remain. Select pieces may be shared on social media, our digital platforms, in a physical installation, and may be published in a physical publication of ocean poems. Finalists will be able to use the title Selected Poet: 2026 World Oceans Day Alfaaz Curation. We are seeking diversity in languages, with a maximum of sixteen lines. Entries close June 4. To enter, visit: /unwod We’re looking forward to your submissions! *This post has been created by a member of the FoWOD community, and is not an official UN communication. @unworldoceansday @oceanicglobal @undoalos

Did you know that the Wonderpus Octopus got its name from the sense of “wonder” scientists and divers felt when they first observed its striking appearance and unusual behavior? Its scientific name, Wunderpus photogenicus, means “photogenic wonder” — a nod to its vivid rust-red and white bands that make it instantly recognizable on the seafloor 🐙✨ Unlike many octopuses that rely heavily on camouflage, the Wonderpus uses bold warning-like patterns and incredible shape-shifting abilities to confuse predators. It can mimic venomous sea snakes, lionfish, and even flounders by changing the way it moves its body and arms. Even more incredible? The white markings on each Wonderpus are completely unique, allowing researchers to identify individuals almost like underwater fingerprints. Motherhood feels so deeply woven into nature itself 🤍 In the quiet acts of care. The patience of guiding another life. The instinct to protect something beyond yourself. There is something beautiful about realizing this kind of love exists everywhere around us, across every corner of the natural world 🌎 Today is a celebration of that love in all its forms. Sending love to every mother, mother figure & nurturing soul this #mothersday ✨ 🎥 @mona.amelie

For decades, Attenborough has done more than document nature; he has helped humanity reconnect with it. Through groundbreaking storytelling, breathtaking exploration, and an unwavering commitment to truth, he brought the oceans, forests, deserts, and wildlife of our planet into millions of homes across generations. Happy 100th birthday to one of the greatest storytellers and conservation voices in history. 🌊💙 Film: Ocean with David Attenborough Video edit by @ksau.whipps

✨ Announcing the 2026 World Oceans Day theme ✨ REIMAGINE: Beyond the world we know, a new relationship with our ocean. For too long, we’ve treated the ocean as something vast, distant, and separate from us. But that has never been the case. The ocean has always flowed through us — in the air we breathe, the food we eat, the climate that makes our lives possible. We are now being called to reimagine our relationship with the ocean and to close that perceived distance. For the first time in a generation, humanity has chosen to govern a significant part of our shared ocean together. The entry into force of the BBNJ Agreement is the beginning of a transformation that no treaty alone can complete. That transformation asks something of all of us. To govern not just beyond our borders, but beyond our blind spots — beyond the habits of taking, of operating in silos, of assuming that the way things have been is the way they must remain. Beyond the world we know, a new relationship with our ocean is within reach. One that is more just, more sustainable, and more honest about how deeply our fates are bound together. Reimagining that future is the first step to building it. Learn more at unworldoceansday.org via the link in bio. UN World Oceans Day 2026 is hosted by the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea of the Office of Legal Affairs (DOALOS) in partnership with @oceanic.global .
