Today the #BBNJ PrepCom wrapped up its third and final session. It will be forwarding to the BBNJ Conference of the Parties, for its consideration at its first meeting, draft texts on rules of procedure, subsidiary bodies, financial matters, the secretariat and cooperation arrangements, among other issues.

Meetings will resume on Monday, as delegations continue preparations for the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties.

We are pleased to welcome our 2026 cohort of United Nations–Nippon Foundation (UNNF) Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea Fellows, along with the 2026 Hamilton Shirley Amerasinghe Fellow.
They have begun the first phase of their nine-month programmes at DOALOS, New York, diving straight into observing the third session of the Preparatory Commission for the Entry into Force of the BBNJ Agreement and the Convening of the First Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Agreement.
We take this opportunity to extend our sincere thanks to our academic Host Institutions for supporting the second phase of the programmes, as well as to UN colleagues and external presenters—including our Alumni—for sharing their expertise through sessions. We wish our Fellows every success as they embark on this journey!
