What's a fundraiser without a party (and prizes). We’re hosting a bingo night as part of our campaign 50/50 — For Makers and Objectspace.
$35 tickets online now (incl. 3 bingo cards!)
6pm, Thursday 28 May
Objectspace, 13 Rose Road, Ponsonby
Invite a mate or two to take your place in Martino Gamper’s Endgrained and test your luck. Special guests will join us to call the rounds and there will be seriously good prizes, including works by Aotearoa’s best makers (such as jewellery titans Judy Darragh and Warwick Freeman). We’ll reveal the prizes over the coming weeks, but expect this will sell out – get your tickets now (only 50 spaces).
Our biggest fundraiser ever is live! 50/50 — For Makers and Objectspace.
We’re fundraising with @boosted.nz to support both our ambitious programming and the spaces that hold it. With all gifts doubled up to our $80k target (thanks to generous match-givers), there has never been a better time to support Objectspace. We need to raise it by 15 June (all or nothing) so now is the time to give – whatever you can! And we’ll split the bill:
* 50% raised will go to our makers: to commission works and shows from the artists we serve – the people pushing craft, design and architecture forward in Aotearoa.
* 50% raised will go to Objectspace’s operational budget: to help us run our spaces, cover the staffing needs of our growing exhibition and event programme, and plan for the future.
Throughout this big campaign to resource and revel in Aotearoa design, craft and architecture, we’ll be sharing insights from Objectspace alumni. Stay tuned, and support makers and Objectspace! Link in bio.

This research project will be captured in the publication we’re working on for Martino’s Endgrained – landing in June at Object Book Launch (find more online).

Screening in Endgrained: Speaking in Stone, a short film commissioned after the untimely death of renowned and much admired sculptor John Edgar ONZM.
From 4pm on Saturday 23 May
13 Rose Road, Ponsonby
Free tickets at objectspace.org.nz/events
About the film:
John Edgar’s studio in West Auckland, once a large industrial ship-building warehouse, had become a vast repository of his copious and prolific creative life. In the aftermath of his death, all those close to him were confronted with the ’remains of the day’. Every corner and surface echoed that he was no longer here – that the unfinished work would remain – unfinished. Yet all of it demanded attention, recording and processing.
This was the impetus for Speaking In Stone, directed by Greg Wood with music by Peter Hobbs.

Brought together wonderfully by curator @daeganwells in the former office and home of architect Sir Miles Warren.

Commissioned alongside A Chop That Breathes, @kerry.ann.lee ’s tear-off essay traces her adoration and ongoing collaboration with trail-blazing artist and designer, Guy Ngan.
‘We both went to the same design school in the same little city (mid-century and end of the century, respectively), but our paths never crossed. We each lived in other places at times, and brought the world back home to scale in our own ways. What’s the throughline here?
Writer Greil Marcus cautions that when a scholar dives into the dustbin of history, they can fall right through the hole in the bottom. Maybe that’s what happened.’
For more richly framed insights into this creative kaupapa, join us this Monday for Kerry Ann Lee’s Ockham Lecture: Connections between Connections, and pick up a poster on the way in.
